DVC at Contemporary

We just got back from WDW and I was surprised how small the new contemporary wing looked compared to the illustrations that made it look as big as the contemporary itself

We don't "know" anything to be fact until DVC makes an announcement. There is lots of speculation, and investigative reporting here thus far, LOL!
Oh, I'd say we know a few things. We know construction is going on - we can go see it for ourselves. We know a lot about the building being built - Disney might not have announced it to us, but they announced a lot in their filings. Disney might not have announced that an architectural firm created plans for a DVC at the CR - but those of us who saw them know they exist.

You are right, we don't know for 100% certain what Disney is up to. But we do know a lot. Everything we know points to DVC.

We know a lot more about the CRV than we did about the Grand Californian. We know that a building was designed to be a DVC at the Contemporary Resort. We know that the building going up at the CR has the same basic design as that DVC building. We know the basic floor plan of what is being built at CR - and it's the floor plan used in DVC-like buildings, not the floor-plan Disney uses for other suites, etc.

I am still leaning towards the multi use building speculation such as Grand Californian turned out to be.

Just to clarify, you took my quote out of context. "We don't "know" anything..." was referring to the 4 "We know.." statements that I quoted from your prior post.

Of course, I know there is construction going on at the Contemporary.

This is not a debate, and we are not here to call anyone "right" or "wrong". Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. And mine was simply stating that I speculate that the Contemporary construction may include some type of hotel family villas as well as DVC units.

I was planning on waiting for the rumored CRV points to go up for sale. BUT..... I am really falling in love with BWV and BCV on the internet. I have been to BWV but never BCV. Can anyone give me their likes/dislikes on BWV and BCV? Can I walk into Epcot from both BWV and BCV? Thanks!

I think we are going to wait now. Only worry I have is that maybe the points or the fees are going to be astronomical because of the location.... I could always go resale at one of the other DVC resorts then I guess. I doubt AK will be sold out by then either.
If you book less than 7 months out it makes no difference where you own. If you think DVC makes sense for you, delaying is going to cost you more $ for less time and you'll spend cash for resorts while waiting. I can see an argument for waiting if you'd only EVER stay at what is only a rumoured contemp DVC and would usually book more than 7 months ahead of your trip, otherwise buying earlier is going to be a cheaper option and (if you book less than 7 months in advance) your booking availability is the same.

Do be aware expiration dates of DVC. VAKL 2057, DSSR 2054 all the other currently open DVC resorts 2042.

BWV is my favorite DVC resort thusfar (I should note that I have not yet stayed at AKV though, so this statement is subject to change).

The best likes for the 2 resorts is the locations. You can walk to the International gateway from both BWV and BCV (BCV being a little shorter walk). You can also walk to Disney Studios (though its is a bit of a hike). It is still nice that you can just hop on the boats to get to the IG or the Studios. The boardwalk area is also pretty great.

I think the BWV has great theming and decor inside. Also, points are lower for standard rooms so points there can go a little futher than other DVCs. To me a downside is the transportation to other resorts. Sometimes buses are extremely slow coming and painful with all the stops at Swan/Dolphin/BCV.

Now I haven't actually stayed at BCV, but I did not enjoy the decor inside. However, the pool (SAB) is like a water park in itself - by far the biggest perk of BCV IMHO. As I understand it can have the same bus issues.

Now, to keep this semi-ontopic with DCV, I think the transportation there will be AWESOME! And the views unbeatable. Plus having the rumored private viewing area at the top. I think one of the big drawbacks will be the price per point by the time they go onsale, and then the number of points that will be required for bookings, and the MFs. I'm just thinking it will likely have the highest of all by the time it is done (again... just my opinion).

Glad we didn't scare you away!

I am a little more partial to BVC than BWV. I like the location better for a couple of reasons. !. The parking lot is much closer than BWV and the actual walking to Epcot is shorter (yes, you can walk from both). But it is easier to walk to MGM from BWV, but we don't go there as often. I also like the rooms more at BCV, the style. We are not SAB people, so that has no draw for us. Also, we don't care for the boardwalk atmosphere. We prefer the quieter ares at BCV. I hope I don't offend any BWV owners. It is a lovely resort and I would be happy to stay there agai n.

BWV and BCV both have a wonderful location going for them. my family loves them both - (we own at BWV). We love booking at 11 months out and getting BW view rooms. We love the easy access to two of the 4 parks.

That being said, during our vacation in January we stayed 2 nights at BWV and 4 nights at BCV. We had friends come along and they joined us at BCV in their own studio. They had vacationed with us 2 years ago at BWV. My husband and I agreed that we preferred BWV. However, our friends decided they preferred BCV. Each for different reasons.

I guess it is "to each, his/her own". I have stayed at BWV, BCV, OKW and WLV. I have not tried AKV - but have stayed at AKL. I have not had the chance to stay at SSR. I liked all of the places we have stayed, but, to me, the location of BWV can't be beat and again - I love my BW View - so BWV is my favorite - my husband's too.

One of the reasons we bought at BWV is that it offers different categories, both in points and views. That appeals to us. :thumbsup2

I sort of think this new structure will be a combination of guest rooms and DVC. I'm wondering if the Grand Californian Villas provide a hint into what the new Contemporary tower will be. Even a viewing spot on top of the structure for viewing fireworks, etc like advertised at the Grand Californian Villas.

I also find it funny that sales won't start until 2009. The construction of the new tower has already begun. Will DVD really wait that long to make an announcement? They could have the whole building done in 2009 at there current pace. The timing really doesn't make sense to me.

This makes me wonder if the lower floors will be guest rooms and the upper floors will be DVC since the announcement and sales may not come until much later.

:tink:

I have stayed at both BWV and BCV. Love them both! They were chosen for location. We picked BWV over BCV for DVC because there are more rooms available.

Back on topic, I am excited about the buzz surrounding CRV. Before the days of the Epcot resorts, we stayed at the Poly. I have never stayed at the Contemporary, but like the monorail and MK view. Can't wait until the announcement! In the meantime, it is fun to speculate.

I would be inclined to think that the cash rooms would be at the top and DVC at the bottom (if it were shared). Cash is king .... and those top level rooms would bring in alot of cash!

Thank you for all your opinions on BW and BC! I will take them into consideration. You've all been a great help!

Doesn't it seem a little strange that there were anouncements for CA and HI but no anouncement for CRV wich is already under construction? HI isnt going to be completed til 2011 and they already anounced it?

I think the logical line of thinking would be that announcing CA and HI will enhance sales at Saratoga and AKV, while announcing the Contemporary would cannibalize those sales. The two non-WDW destinations add variety to the program. The Contemp would make people re-think whether they really want to buy SSR or AKV.

every time i scroll thru the main thread & see any post listed as the main thread with the words

DVC/Contemporary

my heart jumps & I take the bait & check it out jik it's the official announcement:lmao:.

Totally agree.....CR caused me to rethink AKV. We were all set to purchase until construction started.
