DVC at Contemporary

Since the new addition to DL is shared use, as is the new DVC at Hawaii, I really think the Contemporary will be too.

So yes DVC will be there, but not in the entire building.

Actually, I'm almost thinking that the new addition to the Contemporary will be all DVC. The CR already has hotel rooms. This could be an add on similar to AKV with Kadani (sp?). That new construction is strictly DVC.

IMHO I think CR is going to be wildly popular and they will need every villa possible to at least satisfy the 100,000+ DVC members with being able to stay at this resort. :cloud9:

Or it could be like the Grand Californian. The GC new construction will consist of about 300 cash rooms and only 50 villas. It's anyone's guess at this point. :confused3

Can anyone post photo(s) of how far along the construction is? I saw it in person back in August and am wondering what kind of progress they've made... :goodvibes

Interesting read. We did the tour last trip but decided to wait to see what was happening at CR. I know that the family suites at ASM and deluxe rooms at WL are really popular, so not sure if that's what is going in along with DVC at CR. We are looking to tour again on our next trip and think it wouldn't take much for us to purchase. For personal reasons, we are not interested in AKV or SSR. Suggestions? Wondering about WLV - I think it would have to be resale?

Yep, and when your eyes are closed all the rooms look the same.

Your point is? Actually, don't bother, you don't have one.

The point I was making is that if you only ever book 3-6 months before you travel it makes no sense to wait 2-3 years to join up at a resort thats not even yet announced because the price will certainly be much higher than it currently is and you have no extra ability to book a specific resort. All that you would be doing would be paying a much higher price for the same product and your missing 3 years of potential use.

Having spoken to people who are blind, not all rooms are the same when you can't see them, the extra space in the one and 2 bedroom condos at OKW are much easier to get around with bumping into things.

We already own at OKW but are point short. With the option to extend on the table we could spend our money to extend.

However, we have thought long and hard about do extend or not. After long debate we have decided to take the money we would have used to extend and put it as the down payment on CRV.

We win both ways because we have our favorite OKW and we also get to have a long life DVC at CRV.

We just got back and have pictures of the construction at CR. We were also told that is going to be a DVC by a few CM's.

I was planning on waiting for the rumored CRV points to go up for sale. BUT..... I am really falling in love with BWV and BCV on the internet. I have been to BWV but never BCV. Can anyone give me their likes/dislikes on BWV and BCV? Can I walk into Epcot from both BWV and BCV? Thanks!

Just returned from BCV. We stayed at BWV this last spring.
Thoughts:

BCV
postives--location, location, location.
-- close parking lot
-- food choices (at the pool, especially)
-- stormalong bay

negatives--pushed behind the hotel-kinda feels like the kid who got the
less desirable bedroom
-- seems worn out (furniture, carpet, shower area). I just don't
like shabby chic, and this is how it feels to me.

BWV
positives--bright, lively and whimsical.
-- can walk to either MGM or Epcot
--the boardwalk

negatives--parking far away
-- food choices for breakfast or counter service
-- noisier

Just my humble opinion.

just to clarify, at the Grand California, it is 50 DVC 2-bedroom equivalent rooms. So it could technically be 50 1-bedroom and 50 studio units. ;) Or at least 1 can hope! I might would go for a 1BR, but a 2BR for just 2 ppl would be overkill.
I just noticed you will be at SSR while the rest of us are on the cruise. This is my first time doing the DVC member cruise. I am so excited. Maybe next year, right?

Thanks for the great construction picture. The rainbow and the sky behind the cranes look awesome.

All the cast members at Doorway to the Dreams I talk to still swear up and down that it won't be DVC, but my guide in Orlando just won't comment on it. Guess they really want to move the SSR and AKV at Doorway.

BCV is surpose to look that way - It is Grandmother cottage.

but you aren't the only one to complaint. which I am pretty certain is why SSR is new stuff that looks new. AKV is too.

so hoping CRV will be that way too!

With all of the smoke that I have seen, I believe that the new CR will be all or some DVC. However, logic tells me that this does not make sense. DVC is selling no matter where they build the resorts, so why put a DVC resort there. Unless Disney builds more rooms in Cinderella’s’ castle, I can not think of any better real estate in all of WDW (and not much better in the entire US) then were they are building. It seems to me that the profit potential is much greater to build a Disney Hotel then DVC. Of course, I do not have access to all of the numbers so I can’t be sure.

I agreed. but that was my argument for BCV - it couldn't happen.

guess what it happened.

so I do believe that CRV will happen.

I would think the area around BC would be valued as highly as the area around CR.

but the big difference. Disney and DVC actually torn down the old north wing and it is going in that general area.

So it will have some rooms that see the back side of the MK - most will NOT!!!'

the originally plans for a CRV resort was further over of the other side of the tennis court (which got torn down). So the entire resort would basically be on the back side of the MK.

Here's a picture of the construction from 10/08/07 from our tower room:

When BCV were first opened I would never have described it as looking shabby chic. And I have never heard anyone on staff there call it Grandmother's Cottage, which I am not sure what that is. :confused3

The furniture and carpet simply did not hold up to the demands of the guests and it looked old very quickly. They are working on replacing it. It was suppose to be very similar to the Beach Club resort which has never been described as shabby chic.

Has Disney (in the past) ever waited until a DVC resort was almost built to announce that it would be dvc? I too would love to see dvc at Contemporary, but my little voice says "they've already announced GCV and they haven't even broken ground yet". At what point did they announce AKV? Did they already have units built?

If it is their strategy to build buyers into a frenzy before announcing, so we'll all buy without expecting any promotions, it's working.

p.s. love the construction pictures, keep em coming

Those pics show that the bulding will be as tall as those tower cranes... I think it might be mixed use, for both resort guests and DVC, similar to how the proposed Hawaii resort will be...

Almost a trial for that format...

I've been thinking along these lines as well. The timing of this just seems off to me. If they wait to make the announcement the structure will be way ahead with units in it possibly unsold. I'm not saying this will not be a DVC, but it just seems out of the norm.
