DVC APP

Many apps are just wrappers on mobile sites.

True which is why it would be so easy for them to create an app. Wouldn't offer any additional functionality but would feel more polished. Not a big deal to me either way but I've always found it curious there's no dedicated app. If nothing else it would make it easier for them to send push messages which they love to do :)

Why not APP ? It cost money and talent.
No programmer would do it for the pennies Disney would pay them
It would NEVER work or be updated

The website is formatted for mobile devices. You can add a direct link to your Home Screen and basically accomplish the same thing. Many apps are just wrappers on mobile sites.

Thank you very much for this. Never knew you could add the link to the home screen, this works fantastic though.

Huh? Disney has lots of apps that cost money and talent. They clearly tricked some developers somewhere into creating apps for WDW, DL, DCL, Aulani, I'm sure a bunch of others. All the ones I've used get updated, and while they don't ALWAYS work perfectly, they're a long way from NEVER working.

I kind of laughed when I saw the title of this thread, because my first response (in my head) was - “Have you ever used any Disney technology? Their IT department is abysmal!”

Seriously, in an ever evolving world of high technology, Disney is definitely not up to speed. An app would be just too much for the mouse, imo.

DISboards used to have an app, didn't they? And they gave it up. I literally can't imagine how difficult it is to maintain an app that works with all the different operating systems on all the different mobile devices!

Agree! I'd much rather they spend the time and $$ to improve the booking engine. They need to let the dwarves go and find more reliable/better trained software maintenance workers - and I wasn't impressed with Stich either!

If it’s the one I remember, it was a dismal failure from the start. It was $5 (about 15 years ago) and NEVER did a good job. Was never supported, and never seemed to have much to it.
At the time I felt a bit ripped off. I’m long over it however.

Than again, we could be talking about something completely different.

I don't remember paying for mine, but then again, it was a number of years ago, so maybe I'm remembering the same one. It did function well enough for me to read the forums, but that's all I asked it to do.

Short answer is, because they dont have to. DVC owners are a trapped audience. They could say the only way to book was via written letter and we’d still have to do it.

Maybe but wouldn't it save them money to have a great working APP in the long run? They would need less employees to answer the phones. Plus we are paying as members the salaries of those employees. We can demand an APP if we vote for one can't we ?

You must be new to DVC. Our contracts delegate all management authority to the DVC Management Company (DVCMC), which includes internet operations. Owners wouldn’t vote on anything except a few extremely serious issues concerning the existence of the timeshare. Those issues are so rare (and unlikely to occur) that I can’t even remember what they are.

PS if they had a well-functioning website, they’d need fewer CMs to answer the phones. A mobile device that can handle an app should be able to work with a website that’s formatted for mobile, which the DVC website is. I can set a link to the website on my iPhone; I don’t know about Android phones, but can’t they do the same?
