DVC AP renewal question - can someone else activate?

I read on allears the following in a FAQ section about AP's:

"My boyfriend/girlfriend/best friend/significant other has an AP that needs to be renewed the same time as mine. Can I renew it for them"

A. Yes, as long as you have his/her name/address, or pass code information found on the bottom of the back of the pass; consists of the whole bottom line). "

Is this true just for "non-DVC AP's"?

I called member services and they said that this is not allowed.

I need to cancel my December trip, but this special DVC AP must be renewed by 12/31/13.

If I have to, I may be able to shorten my trip and fly down for a few nights to get the AP activated in person instead of going for a week (military son will be on leave at that time, he got a different leave schedule than he has the past three years in a row - go figure lol) and he will be home for part of the week I would have been in disney).

You can get a renewal voucher without the other adults there, but to get the actual AP (or PAP), all adults must be there and show a photo id. The member will also need to show their DVC Member ID Card.
