We are DVC members. We are traveling to Disney in August 2012. We will also be annual passholders by then. We will have the DDP. We love eating at all the different restaurants on vacation and with 2 children, we do get our money's worth. My husband will usually have 2-3 drinks per day and myself probably 1-2 while on vacation. We are also planning on paying out of pocket for the two of us to eat at California Grill (I love sushi, so it did not seem like a good use of 2 credits) and for the four of us to eat at Garden Grove.

Also we will be vacationing again in early to mid summer 2013. I know that as DVC members and with the AP, we do get some discounts, but it seems like over the two trips having the TiW in addition to everything else would benefit us. Could someone provide me with some feedback letting me know if I am thinking correctly?

Also if we have a drink with dinner that we are using our DDP on can we also use the TiW to get the discount since they are sort of a separate bill?

Short answer: TiW discounts booze. ( 20% ) AP discounts are 10%, where valid.

pretty much anything that wouldn't count /be covered by the Plan you could get the TiW discount on.

hell eat at V&A once and it's paid for itself.....

Can we use it in conjunction with DDP to get a discount off of our drinks with the meals? If it doesn't then that would cut into us using it for alcohol.

Two of us in the main dining room and two wine pairing and we saved $74. I am not a pass holder so the TIW cost me $100, but I have still saved $55 on top of the $100 cost and we have two more meals to go.

OP- DVC discount is sometimes 20% but mostly 10%. I have the newest Portable Perks in front of me.
The TIW card is great. You will be able to use it for the billed portion when on the DP.

Yes. Anything you order at a restaurant that participates in TIW that is not covered by the DDP (eg alcohol, appetizers on the regular DDP) will be covered by TIW. You will get 2 bills - one for everyting covered by the DDP and one for everything else. Just let your server know you have the TIW.

Find your receipts (if you kept them), add up how much that comes to in one or two trips. I always assume it's $10 per drink, so depending on how long your trips are, you could make it up with just the drinks! :)

Add in CA Grill and you've got it made. TIW is really good, IMO. Especially since you can use the AP discount to get it, instead of the brand new DVC discount on it.

Dumb ?. Is it a better deal to buy it as an AP member vs. DVC?

It's $75 for AP holders - so $375 in spending to break even.

For FL residents and it seems like DVC members (that is brand new) - $100, so break-even is $500.

Oh, okay. Thank you. When I purchased the guide had told me as DVC members it was only $75, but he easily could have been mistaken. Good info to have. Thank you again.

We are Fl residents, have AP, DVC, and TIW.
We really like the TIW card because it is an across the board discount and we aren't restricted to what we can order like the dining plan does.
It is also nice because at resorts that do not have table service restaurants (such as the value resorts) you also get the 20% off as well.
TIW will automatically add on an 18% gratuity though so keep that in mind. The tip is not added if you are using the TIW discount at at quick service at the value resorts obviously.

If the DVC and TIW discount is the same at a location, I usually opt for the DVC discount and control the gratuity.
TIW is also not valid on certain holidays so the dining plan, or DVC or AP discounts can be used then if you happen to go on those dates.
(Heads up though, i've noticed that it seems only Disney own restaurants decline TIW on holidays. We used TIW at Raglan Road on Thanksgiving with no problem.)

Thanks. We don't mind the 18% gratuity as that we always leave 18-20. We love the DDP especially the idea that most of our meals are prepaid, but I am thrilled that we can now get additional discounts on our meals and drinks that are not covered under the plan. Thanks for the input.

I love my TiW card. It's totally flexible, unlike the DDP. AND it includes the entire bill, drinks included. For $75 (for AP holders) it's a steal! TiW also has events every month, but unfortunately I've never been able to make one.
