I was reading the ticket sticky and another thread about upgrading a MYW ticket to an AP or even a DVC AP. One seemed to contradict the other so I am asking my fellow DVC'ers for the answer. I have a 6 day base MYW that I bought in 2007 never used due to going on DCL instead that year. Can I use this ticket to upgrade to a DVC AP?

Does this ticket have the no expire option? Was the ticket used at all?
Most all tickets can be upgraded within the 14 day period of using the ticket.
ok..reading your post again, it wasn't used. I would think you can upgrade this ticket to a DVC pass. I'd take it to guest services at the park and they should be able to help you out.:thumbsup2

If you want to get he equivelent currnet value I believe you have to use it once and then you can upgrade within 14 days and will get a credit for the currnet value of a 6 day ticket credited AP towards your DVC

Here is a link which explains it much better than I can.

As long as it was not used, then yes, you will be able upgrade it to a DVC AP. Just use it first to bring up its value and then go trade it in.

Did you buy the ticket from Disney or from an authorized discount ticket seller? The thread on the Theme Parks board only involves upgrading from a ticket purchased at an authorized ticket reseller, not one purchased at Disney.

Even if that thread indicates the beginning of a change in policy with Disney no longer "bridging" the price paid to the gate price at WDW, I would expect that Disney will at least give you credit for the price you paid for the WYW ticket. At DL, they do not bridge price paid to gate price, but even with tickets that have explicitly expired, they typically give the guest the value paid for the ticket when upgrading. - Suzanne

No it hasn't been used, and I bought it through the Disney Store and have the receipt in case there are issues.
Thank you for your advice, I'm going to use it that first day and see if I can upgrade from there. If not, well lucky for me the ticket is just the amount of days I will need for that trip.

As the PP mentioned, they should still upgrade your ticket within 14 days of its first use. Disney likes getting more money from tickets.

The question is: will they only count what you paid for your ticket (possible new policy), or will they credit you today's value of your ticket.(Previous policy that usually results in an extra discount!)

This is correct. Upgrades may be done with any unused ticket or within 14 days of the first use of a used ticket.

If you upgrade an unused ticket, you will get a credit for what Disney was paid for the ticket. (This amount is encoded on the ticket).

If you use the ticket at least once before you do the upgrade, you get a credit for the gate price of the ticket (thus preserving any discount you may have received when you purchased the ticket). The CM performing the upgrade is supposed to do an interim procedure to "upgrade" the used ticket to gate price before doing the upgrade to the AP. The date of the AP should be the same day the original ticket was first used.
