Is there anyway to purchase DVC Annual Passes without getting dinged taxes?

We are going to WDW for 5 days in Oct, and then a 7-10 day WDW trip in Aug. 2011, so if I buy an annual pass I can use it for both trips. However, for the 3 of us I'm looking at $1242 for the passes with tax (tax is $76). We could use the day or two we have left on our old non-expiring tickets (just can't go to the parks every day), then just buy 10 park hoppers for the Aug. trip and our outlay through Undercover Tourist would be $895 (no tax) for a savings of $347.

I just can't see why I need to get an annual pass. Anything I'm missing?

Seems like for the AP to be worth it you have to be there for more than 10 days?

Generally yes, staying more than 11 days is when an AP starts to make sense. There are other factors as well (AP is a hopper, regular tickets you have to add that to, room discounts that even DVC members use sometimes, some dining discounts, ability to purchase a Tables in Wonderland card, merchandise discounts).

A DVC AP is around $420 now (including tax as far as I know).
A 10 day hopper is about $300 (including tax). Adding one more day of hopping (so purchasing an additional 1 day ticket w/hopping) would cost $130 more, resulting in the AP being a better deal.

:) Every thing I have read is that many people purchase the 8 day MYW ticket with PH, from UT due to less cost, use the ticket once, then when they purchase APs, they save on the difference in gate price. I would add it up and see which way is cheaper for you.

DH and I asually go for 9 nights. We bought our APs two nights ago. We will have a Dec 2010 trip (9 nts), Spring 2011 trip (7 nts)and fall 2011 trip(7 nts), trying to get 3 trips on our APs---will we do this every year, probably not...it was a good plan for what we hope to do. We will also purchase the TIW card for meal discounts which will help our food budget. We bought now because the prices MIGHT go up in August.

We will not do APs on the years we are only planning one trip.

I have a question. when you purchase the discounted the Annual passholder through the DVC website does it get mailed to you and does it get activated when you just swipe at the turnstile? the thing is im wondering if this is a work around for me. I called member services and was told i couldn't get my girlfriend a pass at discounted price if her ID doesnt have the same address as mine. :confused3

update, nevermind i read the disclaimer. :(

For others wondering, you would only get a voucher if you order before you are at the parks. At the park, you exchange the voucher for your AP by showing your picture ID & DVC blue membership card. And every one has to show ID proving they meet the family member/same residence criteria to get the DVC price.

when we went to WDW in August 2009, DH and I were coming back in September for our honeymoon, so we bought APs for the two of us (not the kids). Of course, this was before we were DVC members, so we paid full price. Then we ended up going back again with the kids in March 2010 (kinda wish we had bought them APs now!) and then squeezed another trip just the two of us in July 2010. So we got 4 trips out of our APs. We also purchased the TIW card for our March and July trips, which worked out really well. With the TIW card, you also get free valet parking at resort restaurants! We let our APs lapse, though, with no trip planned in the future and now just booked for June 2011. So kinda wish we had renewed them with the DVC discount. Oh well. Not sure if we'll get APs for the June trip or not.

I've read that you need to be planning at least 10 park days for an annual pass to pay for itself, however, from what I see, if you're a DVC member, it's significantly less. We are going in Dec. 2010 and will need 5-day tik, not a hopper so I'll use this price: 1 person, 5 day tik= $252 incl tax. Now, a DVC annual pass is $424 incl tax. So, the difference between the two is $172. So, considering a 5-day tik is $252, it won't take the equalivent 5-day tik price (totaling 10 days) to make the AP worth while. Another way to look at it would be 2 times the 5-day tik at $252 would be $504 as compared to the AP price of $424. Am I missing something? Now, if you're renewing an AP, the savings is even greater.....by $47 per person to be exact.

I was thinking of doing this - my husband and I have a trip planned in March and then in June I'm going with my two sons and my mom and sister - so a total of 12 park days for me! :cool1:

Anyway - my question is - can I get the DVC discount in the parks after using a ticket a purchased via UT? Seems like a great way to save some money.

Thinking about doing a free-dining trip (not enough points to eek out another trip). My anual pass expires in Feb (the same month as the trip). Could I apply the MYW ticket to a DVC Ap renewal or just a new AP?

what do you mean no tax, with UT the tax is already added so you still pay a tax.
