DVC and special offers

FYI to the OP. If you feel a post is uncalled for and argumentative, you can click on the little red triangle to the lower left of the post box and report it, and anyone not following the rules of the board will be warned or given discipline points. Be careful what you report though, because most of the arugmentatives I've seen on this thread came from the OP.

The DIS is not the only place to get your information. The DVC member web site is one you should check out, since all the definitive information can be found there if you can suffer through digging through a poorly done web site.

I'm confused on the free dining deals. I know most people say you have to pay full rack rate in order to get free dining but by my calculations that's not true. I own at BWV and am not interested in booking free dining, but I still can't see how this is true:

Disney All-Star Sports
12/10 - 12/17
2 adts, 1 chd, 1 infant
Room, park hoppers (no water parks), quick service dining = $1553.30

If you take out the cost of 7 day hoppers ($937.21) = $616.09
If you divide what's left over $616.09 by 7 nights = $88.01 per night

Plus you get the dining. Am I missing something? Besides using a value resort? From what I see I'm paying for tickets (which I would do regardless of what/where I book), plus I'm getting a room for $88/night with free dining:confused3

Wow. :confused3 I for one am grateful for all the "senior" members who have been kind enough to answer all my questions over the last couple of years. Taking the time to answer a question thats been asked a million times is not rude, and does not require an essay to answer since it's been covered so many times.

:disrocks:

And if you feel staying in a value room in low season and paying out of pocket for it is a good value for you over using your already paid for points to stay in a villa, then go for it. I just didn't buy DVC to stay in value sized digs (I suspect that $88.night IS rack rate for this season), and I've tried the DDP when I had to pay for it....not a good value to me. I pay $2000 in annual dues for my DVC membership, and I don't want to spend more just for free dining. I figure no matter where I'm at (home or away), I have to eat, so why pay additional for accommodations when I already own some at WDW.

I think the 7-day PH passes would be 880 for 2 adults, one child, so that would leave $673 for the room, which would be just about rack rate.

We bought DVC primarily for deluxe accommodations, usually 1 or 2 BR. It just wouldn't be worth it to me to stay in a value or mod for a week just for the free dining. When you crunch the numbers, it's not really a great deal. YMMV.:goodvibes

In the past, there have been some periods where one could get both a sizeable discount on the room (up to 40%) and still get "free dining." I don't follow free dining, so I don't know what the deal is right now...if any.

The better place for that info is probably on the DIS Disney Dining Plan board in the Restaurants section of the DIS.

Hear, hear. What Chalee was pointing out here is that there's nothing free about "free dining". "There's no such thing as a free lunch" has literal application here. I didn't sense any ire toward the OP.

I agree.

Free dining is now only available with a 2 day park ticket purchase for everyone in the room (minimum purchase) and a rack rate room. With the exception of some UK discount offers that are out there.

That is correct. And MS shows the current rack rate for the All Stars to be $82 and $92 (standard - weekday and weekend) and $97 and $107 (preferred) during that period, before taxes. My calculations with the correct ticket prices come up with close to $97/night for the room - which is rack rate.

If one books a value or even a moderate resort and has two adults and two kids then Yes free dining can be a good deal.

It will never be a great deal on a deluxe resort or deluxe villa.

I"m always amused when a poster fails to use the search option properly, asks a question, gets a direct response, and then gets all huffy because they don't like the answer (probably because it's not the one they were hoping to hear ;) ) . No one forces you to be here people. If you can't navigate the search option, or at least scroll down and back a couple of pages to see if there is a similar thread (as there almost always is), then don't bite the hand that feeds you.

I don't think anyone here is too terribly concerned about the Disboard's "reputation". :thumbsup2

Sorry to speak plainly, but that is merely my honest opinion.

That happens too when people call WDW, if they don't like the answer they are given or don't get what they want, they call the cm "rude".
