I'm not a DVC member...yet. But want to know as DVC members can you get the dining plan during your visits?

Yes, you can purchase the dining plan as a DVC member.
For now...

Don't use perks as a consideration in deciding whether or not to buy DVC. Member perks can and do change.

Yes they can change, but for now we can get the dinning without buying tickets.

unless you use points to stay at a hotel then you can't

ie use your points to book AKL

DVC points may be used at other WDW resorts besides DVC resorts. The dining plan available to DVC members does not apply to non-DVC resorts.

As noted, the DVC perks and programs may change without notice or input from members. I would not base ownership decisions on the additional programs available at any given time.

Thanks for that information, I'm really just waiting for my wife to buy into the DVC, i'm ready, but she's not. So hopefully soon we'll be joining.

No discount for DVC members. The cost is $37.99 per adult, per day and everyone in your party must purchase the DDP. Children 9 and younger are $10.99 per day.
We just returned from WDW and had the DDP. We thought it was well worth the money.

If you're staying 5 nights, do you have to get the plan for everyday? If yes, would it be for 5 days or 6? I'm guessing 6, but I don't want to assume anything.

Nope, it would be 5. The dining plan credits are figured on your number of nights stay. I think this usually works out for most people because your first and last days are typically 1/2 days what with travel time, checking in later and checking out around breakfast time.

For anyone interested in the dining plan, there is a separate board on the Disney Dining Plan.

At the top of that board is an excellent "sticky" which discusses all of the aspects of the plan, requirements, benefits, restrictions, etc, etc, in GREAT depth. The link for that FAQ thread is http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1023429

Save yourself some time, and a lot of work by reading that FAQ first.

The only additional info you will need is that DVC owners staying on points at a DVC resort don't have to purchase tickets. The rest of the plan is identical.

The dining plan is only a great perk if you're not entitled to any other discounts. DVC members get a good discount of the annual pass, which also entitles them to buy a disney dining experience card. That card gives 20% discount at most sit down restaurants. I have tried it both ways, and we came out best off using the dining experience card. And we do tend to eat the most expensive things off the menu. But, the dining plan could still work out ok if you're not entitled to the dining experience card.

Everybody's experience with DDP vs DDE will be different, depending on their group composition and normal eating habits. We have the DDE, and made money on it our first 5-day trip, but we still find the dining plan saves us more.

I just made ADRs today for our November trip. With two adults and one child eating two Epcot dinners and two character dinners, we'll more than break even. Then all the CS and snack stuff will just be bonus. We'll also use our DDE for adult beverages, etc, but we won't get one next year if they still have the dining plan.

Yes it available to non-members. You just have to decide you want it,I believe at least 5 days prior to checkin. Hope this helps. Angel
