My SIL can only stay for the first 2 of the 5 nights we'll be at OKW in February. He has DME depature reservations for Tuesday...the rest of us leave on Friday. I know there is a rule that everyone in the room must be on the dining plan. My question is this....If we decide to add DDP can I get his for only 2 of the 5 nights? :confused3

I don't believe you can. The general rule of thumb is that the DDP is added for everyone for the full length of the reservation. But I would call MS and see if they can get seperate room key cards with their departure date.

No, they will require you to purchase it for the whole stay. We have the same situation with my sister in Feb, she is only staying for 8 nights.

But, the other members of your party can use the dining credits left over.

My sister is paying for the nights she will be there and we are picking up the remainder and will just have extra credits. :thumbsup2

Hmmmm....I was afraid of that. What do you think the rationale behind that rule is?

To help prevent abuse. If people could get the DDP only for the "days they wanted it", they would schedule dinner shows, CA grill, etc on those days only, then eat cheap the rest of the trip. For instance, if we could get the DDP for just one day, how many folks would do that just to get a deal on the Candlelight Package?

Also remember that the DDP is actually "owned & operated" by Disney Travel. DVC had negotiated quite some time in order to make it available to DVC members. I would assume the requirement is also part of DVCs agreement with Disney travel.

In order to understand the why of this, you have to understand what the Disney Dining Plan is. It is a marketing promotional package...not an option you can select from a list of options. It's all or nothing, take it or leave it, and it is not designed to meet everyone's needs. Some people love it, others don't, and some who love it don't love it in every possible scenario. But it is what it is.

Your situation is one where either the extra credits will allow you to enjoy some signature dining, or the plan is not for you this time.

Also, I'm sure you already know this, but I'll mention it anyway. You have the option of getting a separate room for the SIL, just for the period he's going to be there, and then he could get the DDP or not for that period when he's actually there. I have no idea whether that makes sense in the context of your other arrangements, but it's an option.
