DVC and AP questions

My wife and I have decided to take two trips next year, one with the kids and one without. So, now we are looking into getting an AP with the DVC discount. We've never done this before and I have a few questions.

Am I correct that the current discounted price is $353.69?

Do we order these through member services?

When should I order it for our Jan 2010 trip?

Besides the dining discount, what other perks do the AP members get?

I'm positive ALL of these answers can be found on these boards somewhere, I just couldn't find the link.

Thanks!

:) We are brand new to DVC too. I think we may do AP. When I asked Member services about getting tickets with our reservation. We added the DP and will need to pay for it at check-in. It was $39 a night per person (thought that was pretty good). When I inquired about AP she suggested that I purchase MYW tickets on check in then our second day in the park we just walk up to a Guest Relation counter and upgrade. They would apply the balance of out tickets to the upgrade, we pay the difference. She said that if I ordered them ahead I would only receive a voucher for the AP. That would require me to find a Guest Relation place before ever entering a park--changing it to a hard ticket--wasting time, when I could already be enjoying myself---made sense.

Someone will pop in here any moment and correct me if I am wrong. Have a great trip.

A new DVC Discounted AP is $369 plus tax for adults (10+). Sales tax is 6.5%. Total with tax is $392.99.

I'm really surprised MS would recommend buying and using a MYW ticket first, as it won't save $$ and you'll still need to do an upgrade at a guest relations counter, so whether you are upgrading, exchanging a voucher, or simply buying a new AP, it takes about the same amount of time.

There is some $$ saved if you buy a discounted MYW from an authorized ticket seller, use one day, and then upgrade, but not if you buy an MYW at the resort.

Does anyone know what the DVC AP renewal rate is? We have DVC APs that need to be renewed in March. I'm trying to get our Disney money for the next year together and need to know the renewal rate so I can budget it. Thanks in advance.

You don't need to order from MS, you can wait and buy them at any Guest Relations location at WDW. Just make sure that you take your member ID with you.

While you CAN order the AP from MS, and you CAN buy it when you get there in January....My advice is to order it NOW online through the member website. You get the discounted price NOW, and will have a voucher to turn in ande exchange for the actual passes once you get there in January. The advantage to this is that you get the tickets at TODAY'S prices and not the higher price which will be in effect after the expected price increase in August.

We tend not to renew our APs, but instead wait until our next trip to use new vouchers. Our current APs don't expire until January 20, 2010, but we are buying new vouchers NOW so we will have them to use on our March trip next year. It's a bit of a savings over the guaranteed price increases, and we don't have to hold onto APs for months that we aren't in Florida. Since renewal means it renews to the original purchase or first use date, it makes sense to us to use a new voucher if it will be 3 months between our last visit on one pass and the first on a new one.

The member website has the AP prices before the 6.5% sales tax.

For renewals:
Adult AP: $324 plus tax
Adult PAP: $434 plus tax
Child AP: $286 plus tax
Child PAP: 383 plus tax

We are going down next month and will be getting our first AP, how long does it take to purchase it? Are the lines long?

Maybe I misinterrpreted what she was telling me but I was on the phone with MS. There are still so many details to all of this so she may have been telling me how to launch an ICBM for all I know.....hey, what is an ICBM anyway.....just kidding.:confused3

So if I buy it now, would expire 1 year after the first time I use it or 1 year after I purchased the voucher? I think I'm reading this as 1 year after I first use it.

1 year after you exchange the voucher for the actual pass at WDW.

I am a little worried now.
I purchased a DVC AP several months ago to lock in todays price. All I have is a confirmation# - not a voucher.
Will that be a problem? Do I go to Guest Relations or "Will Call" to get my AP? I plan on doing this on a Saturday in October at the IG at Epcot.
Thanks for your help

You may redeem it for an AP at guest relations at any park or at DtD. It is basically the same as a voucher, only it is electronically on file with Disney and is accessed using the confirmation number

If we order our APs through the member site do we get a confirmaion electronically or do we have to wait for something in the mail?
I just decided this morning that I am going to order now for our trip next month but I don't want to cut it too close and not have whatever I need before we leave.

For those who have ordered online, what was the turn-around time? Thanks!

You will have two options, will call or pay for shipping of exchange vouchers.

I can't seem to find where on the website you can buy AP'S. Can someone please let me know where to look.

thanks

We just bought BLT and are going in Nov and are planning on buying APs then. My husband is military, would we save any $$ buying tickets on base (NOT military salute tickets) and then upgrading to an AP with the DVC discount when we're there? TIA
