DVC Advantages?

Okay so me and my 2 brothers are trying to convince my parents to become part of the DVC. We were there in June 08 and talked to the lady at our POR about it but it was our last day and we were checking out so we could see the tour. We got that dvd in the mail and everything


Can you list some advantages or anything that dvc members recieve so we can tell our parents about it more?

Not sure what you mean by advantages. DVC is a timeshare; think of it as a way to pre-pay for lodging at the DVC resorts. Depending on how you vacation, it can be a very good value. If you stay at deluxe or DVC resorts at at least every two-three years, you'll almost certainly save a good bit of money over the cost of a cash reservation. That's the advantage to DVC.

I have the feeling you're talking about something else, though. There are a few small discounts (restaurants, golf, etc.) that are constantly changing. The only one of significant value is the AP discount ($100), but none of the discounts are guaranteed, and any or all of them could go away tomorrow. Discounts shouldn't figure into anyone's buying decision.

In essence, DVC is just a different way of paying for your lodging. If you're going to make the case for DVC to your parents, you need to do it based on finances.

The biggest advantage is that DVC is a huge hedge against future inflation. If someone goes to Disney on any type of regular schedule (every couple of years for example), then in the long run DVC will save considerable $$, OR will give better accommodations for similar $$'s, Or Both!

Your lodging is taken care of for the next several years. 40 to 50 years of priceless memories. That is why we bought.

As posted, if you travel to Disney every year or every other year then DVC may work. It also gives a family of 5 more options on where you can stay since Florida can be pretty strict on occupancy. DVC as a really doesn't offer and park hopper ticket deal, meal discounts, or really any other break except for the fact that you may be stay in a two bedroom unit for a lot less money the family next door that paid CRO for the same type room.

The AP is the only park admission that is discounted with a membership, however, there are other member perks that are available for meals, shopping, entertainment and recreation. On the meal side of things, certain restaurants offer food discounts for certian meals, mostly breakfast and lunch, however, these do take some searching to find. The perk that DW and I use most is the golf membership. The last golf membership we purchased had over 32 rounds on it. I'll be buying another in Feb and will get 16 rounds just in that week alone.

Member perks change all the time and one should not purchase DVC just for the perks, but there are usually some perks out there if you look.

Agreed, but the perks are little and difficult to use. We don't even bother, just the AP a couple of years ago. I did realize these existed but most probably do not take advantage of them nor did it sway them to buy or not.

Well, depending on the age of you and your brothers... DVC can be a really good deal. We have three children, as well, and all are over the age of 9. That means they are "adults" at Disney. In most cases we would have to rent a villa OR 2 rooms at a value or moderate resort. If your family goes to Disney at least every other year then the numbers add up quickly in favor if DVC. If you eat at Downtown Disney Mcdonalds a lot your DVC membership gives you 20% discount. LOL. Plus, when you get your AP with your discount your AP now gets you a discount in the Disney store. Last night we were asked if we had an AP for a discount at the till.

The financial benefits also depend on purchasing direct from Disney or buying resale. I'd have them take a look at the resale market and then look at the pros and cons with going that direction over direct from Disney.

DVC resales should stay close to their value, which is a very rare statement in the timeshare industry. Direct from Disney takes an immediate drop in price if you wanted to sell it.

We purchased a resale and plan on selling it in about 10 to 15 years. In the meanwhile, we're able to get a 2 bedroom place with a full kitchen and living room area for my family of 4 and another couple who came with us for about a 1/3 of the cost we would have paid if we had gotten two studios.
