DVC “Confessions”

Tangental question: can someone really "like" or "dislike" a resort if they've never actually stayed at it to get the whole experience ?

For instance, I have an aversion towards BLT and thumb my nose at it, without ever having stayed there. I suppose that would be another DVC confession.....I'm bougie. 🙃
Interesting.

I've always been a hater of the entire Contemporary aesthetic, and my family has now stayed at BLT twice in the last few years and loved it.

I mean, not the aesthetic. I still don't care for it. But the combination of the room layouts (hello, extra bathroom!), location, and point charts make it damn appealing.

I'd stay there for 8 days over 6 days in the Grand Floridian any day.

My confession is: I've owned Riviera for 4 years and never once actually stayed there...

My wife rode Rise of the Resistance with Josh D’Amaro and his kids on Monday, injured herself getting into the ride vehicle in front of him, didn’t know who he was, asked how long he waited (less than 1 minute was his answer).

If the head of "Disney Experiences" stands in line for 1 minute for the most popular rides, he's not really getting the full actual guest "experience," especially on a hot and humid summer day.

1. At least you got your money's worth!
100% 😅

Last MM I went to was EP about a year ago and we were told, no popcorn! Can anyone confirm? I would have gone to MM just to ride Guardians over and over but my friend (who was a first timer) decided she was one and done. But: we managed to ride most things, couldn't use up all our snack coupons, and lines weren't bad. The extra fireworks were fun.
The last MM I went to was one of the “bonus MM nights” they added at AK… I was there in November.

I looked & looked- then asked (multiple) CM’s where the DVC popcorn buckets were & the most knowledgeable CM told me for the “bonus” MM events they were not giving out buckets, but I could use 1 of my snack certificates for 1 small bag (no worries- I didn’t fall into that $2.25 trickery!!). Anyway, I ended up getting a large dole whip & grabbed 2 bags of roasted cinnamon-sugar pecans on my way out (they were the perfect snack on my flight home 😋)… it worked out beautifully 🤩

The CM’s did not know if the buckets would be coming back during the “standard” 2025 MM events. I’m going to assume that they are, but who knows?!?

And he definitely missed getting feedback from actual DVC members who might have been around him while waiting for the ride. I know I'd personally have had a lot to say to him if he was in line with me!

I don't love BLT either but have stayed multiple times, because it's walkable to MK and on the monorail. I would say I like it okay.

And, I confess - I don't own at Riviera but have stayed on 3 occasions, Tower room for 2, Deluxe Studio premium view and Deluxe studio standard view. I was able to get these rooms at 7 months when I couldn't get where I own (BWV and BCV).

I've stayed everywhere DVC on property due mostly to being locked out of the 2 I own (sometimes at 11 months) but mostly when I've decided on a later trip and had to stalk to get a room.

I really like the cozy cabins at FW but won't be buying.

husband was not convinced. 24 hrs after seeing that room he was all in and we were direct members!
So ... despite my descriptions of DH always putting the brakes on more DVC points (now any time he hears me say "DVC" he shouts "no more points!"), HE is the one who's upped the # of direct points each time we've decided to add on.

This wins the thread (today). Love this.

I can't stay at the Polynesian because my wife says the perfume smell of the hotel lobby nauseates her 🤣🤣

Does she mean the buildings the rooms are in or the Grand Ceremonial House?

I used to love walking through the grounds and smelling the Gardenias. I don't remember the smell from GCH or the actual room smell.

Apparently the main hotel lobby inside. It does have a "smell" as most of them do (grand floridian smells like cookies to me!) I don't mind it to me it smells fine but with her apparently it's an issue 🤣🤣

My wife can’t stand the pungent aroma of Riviera. It is quite strong. I call it the smell of carcinogens.
they definitely scent all or most of the hotels. I didn't notice anything at jambo or baylake but definitely vgf and poly

My allergies are really set off by most perfumes. I cannot walk through the perfume section of department stores (usually at main entrance 😠). However I don't find an issue at any of the lobbies. I too love the smells. Makes it feel nice, fresh and clean. Part of the Vibe. That said I can sympathize with your DW. Certain smells can be triggering. If I get a whiff of something real perfumey then I start looking for an escape route. Elevators can be the worst.

For me I definitely noticed it at the Polynesian especially at the Island Towers lobby so I was like maybe they're turning it up for the new hotel and vibe. Although noticeable to me, it didn't bother me and actually I agree it goes with the theme and reminded me of the attraction Soarin Around the World when they show the Fiji scene which is one of my favorite attractions so I'm all about it. I guess with her it's too strong, everyone's different, but I'm still making her stay there regardless 🤣🤣

So I just spoke to her for clarification and apparently she said her father used to douse himself in Axe cologne before they went somewhere and it would give her an instant headache and she would try to hide it from him and then he would just buy another one. Apparently her perception is that the hotel smell is "cologney like a guy from the 90s trying to impress" which reminds her of when her dad wore that in excess and then she felt nauseated. So this seems deeper than the actual smell 🤣🤣

no joke! I took my then-11 year old on Kali RR and we were legit the only 2 guests on the ride, in the queue, etc. It felt like riding Haunted Mansion or ToT at night ... alone....

And I should add a new confession: Until EP MM I did not know there is a "DVC Song".

Confessions of confessions: Though not DVC specific, my daughter and I attended a MK MM event in MARCH 2017 back when it was easier to book and when you had WAY more food options. It was our very first one but what I remember was being the ONLY ones in line for HM at the end of the night. It truly made it scary! The CM even took a photo of us inside the stretching room all by ourselves!

About a year or so ago we did another after hours event at HS (not DVC, we paid for this one) and our party of 4 were the ONLY ones in the elevator on ToT. The CM let us sit wherever we wanted so we each chose a corner. It was another memorable experience.

I also had no idea there was a DVC song and I've attend several DVC MM events (at MK in 2017, and also Typhoon Lagoon, AK, Epcot and HS, all different years).

Where can we find this dvc song?
