DVC “Confessions”

There was a similar thread about a year ago, and I posted the following…

I bought one of those huge sombreros from the Mexico Epcot pavilion.
When packing for home, I could not figure out how to put it in my suitcase, so…..

On the way out of Kidani, near the elevator, I put it on one of the wood carved statues.
It totally looked like it belonged.

I truly wonder how long it stayed there.
You could have worn it on the plane ....
(I think I did see a kid wearing one on a flight out of MCO, years ago)

As for the robe, not Beach Club, but now I have to see what swag they have...
I think my hubby got me the robe so I'd stop talking about buying points there.

It was huge… it would have hung over all three seats. :teeth:

Yes, you did… which makes another confession for me… that kid is mine 😂😂

& To add to my pain, he wore it back TO WDW (repeatedly), until he finally convinced his younger sister to buy one too… and then they both wore them through the airports (at least they put them in the overhead bins on the planes so they weren’t such flight risks 😝) 🫣

ETA- I just realized you were still talking about the Mexican sombreros, and my kids bought the large Chinese bamboo hats. But at those sizes… potāto, potahto 😉

Confession #1: I micro-walk almost every reservation. If it's available midday a day or two prior to 11m, I book it then and modify at 11m so I don't feel compelled to wake up at 5am at exactly 11m.

Confession #2: I bought the wrong Use Year, by request, in our initial purchase because I was an idiot and didn't think around corners.

Confession #3: Generally speaking, I was an uninformed purchaser in our initial purchase. Not uniformed-for-DISBoards, outright uninformed.

Confession #4: For years, I was overly value focused. The rooms/resorts I would pick at 7m would very often be the best cash :: points ratio rooms/views available. (this was possibly in compensation for being an uninformed purchaser)

Confession #5: I think AKV has the most under-themed rooms (relative to opportunity/expectation).

Confession #6: I will probably never stay at Hilton Head. And I'll only consider Vero as a 'bridge stay' between WDW and DCL out of Port Everglades.

Confession #7: I think DVC should officially expand into the Moderates, and I hope they haven't learned the wrong lessons from CFW's failure.
Confession #8: I think the Moonlight Magic in-park experience is worse than just going on a random night. I'd rather hang out in the villa than go to a Moonlight Magic.

What specifically do you not like about MM?

We've been to an EPCOT MM and a DCA MM. The EPCOT one was ~fine, though after we decided we wouldn't ever travel for one.

DCA one was the one that made us say "never again", even if it overlaps with a pre-planned trip.

Unusually long lines for everything, not just rides/attractions. Food/snack lines were ridiculous because of the vouchers, and nowhere was open where we could just pay for something without waiting an excessive amount of time for that snack/water/meal.

Attraction/ride lines were also generally above our waiting threshold and it wasn't clear until way too late that we could have bought LL to solve that.

Cynically, it felt like the plan was to dilute the quantity of experiences with wait times everywhere. In reality, it was likely simply too much attendance.

Wow that’s very different from my experience at AK. Virtually no wait. Rode EE multiple times in a row.

I've been to AK, MK, and Epcot MM events.

Of these, Epcot was the WORST by far, of any MM event. Super long lines for food that ran out, an hour wait for popcorn, and most of the rides down. But, then again, it was the first one they ran after the pandemic ended. If this was the first one I'd ever gone to, I would have made the decision right then and there to never attend another! The extra hours for deluxe resort guests were better than that MM!

AK was nice, but the park is so big that I felt like I spent the night walking from place to place. And, some of the paths are pretty dark at night, so it was a bit creepy walking around.

MK was the best. Only quibble was that they decided to put the free ice cream in the building next to the Fantasyland Railroad station, making it a hike from everything else that was open.

It took me a while to figure out, but Moonlight Magic is Disney's way of throwing a bone at DVCers, who'll line up for free cheap popcorn while also thinking they're appreciated.

In addition, those boring Member Lounges are given way more credit than they're due because, hey! there's a Coke Freestyle machine in the bland spaces!

This is an oversimplification, of course, but there's a ring of truth to it. They wouldn't have these events if they didn't reap huge returns on their investments. Look at the people determined to purchase direct and keep the prices up because they just CAN'T give up these amazing "perks."

1. At least you got your money's worth! 2. Mostly the same, but the sombreros are a bit more squishable.

no joke! I took my then-11 year old on Kali RR and we were legit the only 2 guests on the ride, in the queue, etc. It felt like riding Haunted Mansion or ToT at night ... alone....

Last MM I went to was EP about a year ago and we were told, no popcorn! Can anyone confirm? I would have gone to MM just to ride Guardians over and over but my friend (who was a first timer) decided she was one and done. But: we managed to ride most things, couldn't use up all our snack coupons, and lines weren't bad. The extra fireworks were fun.

And I should add a new confession: Until EP MM I did not know there is a "DVC Song".

Wife and I did Decembers at AK and we had the same experience. Honestly it has been one of my favorite times at AK so far. We did use the early entry to our advantage and got in line for the characters we knew we would want to see. Granted we waited there but it was either wait then or have an even larger wait later in the night. We got in got our pictures done then went about.

We had maybe 3 people in line when we stopped to use food vouchers multiple times, Rode EE three times in a row before the wife said no more. We didn't end up stay the entire time but we got a lot out of it.

I'm hoping to do Typhoon this summer (we will be there for the august date.)

I guess my confession was the first time I was back in the parks as an adult (2021) I knew I was buying DVC even though I said I didn't want to just jump into it. it was just a matter of convincing the wife which took a lot less effort then I thought it would. I think it was seeing the tub in the 1 Bedroom in the Riviera and the washer/dryer which solidified it.
