DVC “Confessions”

I don’t care if I ever see fireworks or parades again.
I semi-agree. Fireworks shows are so much "work" to attend property, and watching them from afar (not to mention paying thousands more for rooms that have a pretty lousy view of them) doesn't cut it for me. It took me a while to realize that seeing them over and over (even from good viewing locations) was more force of habit than anything else.

Parades, on the other hand, are still fun, and I miss the nighttime MK parades. I don't rush around to attractions I've done countless times in the past, so this kind of entertainment makes the day for me. I also miss Move It! Shake It!, and the HS "dance party parade," which were easy to watch and lots of fun.

I know what you mean - the lobby is stunning but it’s eerily quiet otherwise.
You get it.
This is how I feel about the BCV hallways...and the elevator with the creepy Mickey and Minnie voices announcing the floors. Honestly I love everything about BC so much but the Villas themselves are very meh and out of the way.
Good to know. I've always wanted to stay there, but maybe not!
Like the hallway with the twin girls in "The Shining"?
I'm staying at the Overlook, I mean BRV, very soon, so I'm looking forward to checking it out!
Honestly, YES! They are much narrower and darker than any other hallways I've experienced in hotels. And the doors are red. I'm probably remembering incorrectly, but it seems like the lights subtly flickered at night. We had many late nights coming back (Christmas party, extended evening hours, etc) and it was just my daughter and me and it was creepy. We were one of the last rooms in the hallway too. We figured out there were stairs near our room and started using those to exit, so we could avoid the hallway.
I always got those vibes at Trail's End, but that's kind of what I loved so much about it. There was something so "off" about the space that gave me a weird/creepy feeling. It's strangely one of my favorite spaces at WDW. I have't been there since they renovated, and am wondering if it's still like that.
Interesting. They changed it so much, so I'd be interested to hear if you feel the same way.

Yeah, I'm actually sad about not liking Boulder Ridge. I had a really great core memory type of moment there. My daughter and I got magic bars and went over the the BR lobby to eat them. It was December so the tree was there and we sat in the two rocking chairs in front of the fireplace. It was so cozy and beautiful I knew I wanted to stay there, especially during the holiday season.

We stayed there this past December and everything seemed different. The fireplace wasn't on for our entire week long visit and the lobby was filled with screaming kids every single time we passed through. Our first assigned room was an accessible one and reeked of cigarette smoke. We had to be moved to Copper Creek for the night and had the oldest, most uncomfortable pullout couch bed ever. Then we got the room at the end of the creepy hall. So I'm sure all these things sort of soured the whole experience. It's too bad because I know BR has so many hardcore fans, but it just wasn't for us.

Mine is I don’t like (or care for) characters, character meals or parades. (I may be too new to DVC to have any real DVC confession yet)

I don't either! In fact I avoid characters. I've never stood in line for a meet, but a few times I've seen them roaming free in the AKL lobby and outside by the fountain at VGF. When I see them approaching I kind of wave and turn and walk the other way, haha.

My second favorite souvenir(s) are the parking placards they print for your dash when parking at VGC. It has your family's name on it and the resort logo. I have a collection and I'm looking forward to getting another next month when we drive instead of fly for the first time in years.
The best was when VGC actually printed your name on the hotel key card. That was a fun, free souvenir too!

This would be so freaking cool for Halloween time!

I love the Mickey and Minnie voices announcing the floors on the elevators at BCV. Maybe I'm the only one.
And for the person who "lost" one point. Don't feel too bad-during the pandemic and shortly thereafter years, I lost 9 points.

My confession: I had never stayed on property at DL or WDW before buying into DVC, our experience was via renting points to stay for a few nights at Aulani. I now own at Aulani and SSR and still have never stayed on property at WDW (due to a cancelled trip) ... thus far we have only used our DVC points at VGC and that looks to be true for 2025 as well, might do a third-party swap of points for a cruise or for a Universal vacation (gasp!)

This reminds me of one time that my wife and I were travelling and we stayed for two days at a big old mountain resort in the Poconos off season. We barely saw a soul the whole time. There was an empty bar down one of the hallways, closed for the season. Every time I walked by I kept expecting to see Delbert Grady, polishing a glass, and inviting me to come in and have a drink on the house. :teeth:

My confessions:
I want to stay at every DVC resort except the ones at Disneyland. I don't even know their names!!! I just have no desire to visit Disneyland. (Actually, my desire to go to a WDW park is also slowly dwindling.)

I make my DH get a bag for s'mores at HHI, just so I can have twice the amount. Oh, and I never make a s'more. I roast the marshmallows and eat them by themselves. Then I eat the Hershey's on the way back to the room. I save the graham cracker for a snack the next day. I know, I'm weird.

DH's confession:
The Poly hallways reminded him of a cheap motel.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever been to DisneyIand?

We bought into DVC without ever seeing a single resort in person AND we had never vacationed at WDW previously. We had, however, just finished a fantastic trip to DL/DCA as an entire family, & my (money-cautious) sister told me I should look into this thing called Disney’s Vacation Club (which was like a timeshare…but legit 😜… her friend had it & loved it- so I decided to at least look into it).

I researched like crazy… & couldn’t find a downside… so, we purchased a BLT resale… and then another small contract directly from DVC for the blue card’s AP benefit (that year’s promo was receiving the platinum pass for the gold price). No regrets! 🤩😍

New confession - I've been a DVC member since 1996, but had no idea what 'walking' was until I looked it up after seeing it mentioned so often on these boards.

I also still have a great deal of trouble figuring out what all of the initials used on these boards mean - VGF, BRV, CFW, etc - as well as things like DH, MM, DAH, DD and so on. It speeds up the typing for the poster, and those well versed in initials can seamlessly read through - it takes me 2-4 times as long to read as I try to figure out what the initials mean, or go look them up somewhere!
