DRINK ALCOHOL????

I was having a discussion with someone very close to me, and they told me that at work they are allowed to drink alcohol. Everyone brings it in and starting at 11:00 (not a minute sooner per company rule) they can start celebrating. I have to admit that this shocked me and this person also doesn't know of any other place that it is allowed. Any other places allow this? This is not a small company either, VERY LARGE!!!!

Work sponsored Christmas party???/ I did not kow such a thing existed!

At our work Christmas party (I work in a restaurant), it was clearly stated that there was to be no alcohol...however, about two hours into the celebration, the alcohol was busted out and everyone started having more fun, including the owners and managers, lol...

We are allowed to. My Mom's company is always celebrating something and they constantly have champagne on hand.

I personally feel odd drinking in front of my boss but thats just me.

When I worked for a retail company we were not allowed to have alcohol. The younger ones would have it out in their car and go out and drink. Like they couldn't wait until the party was done.

Since I work in a hospital, that would be a big NO!

But if it's held off property, then by all means, there are people consuming alcohol! ::yes::

We have even been known to crack open a bottle or two of beer while we are working..if it is after hours

That's ok.. if we are after hours it's not just company time..
It's overtime!!!!

No, not where I work - a high school.;)

I work in retail and last year we had a going away party for one of our favorite managers (lucky for her, she was moving to Florida!) at the party they bought a few buckets full of beer bottles. Although, I should mention, this was NOT work sponsered, and it was held at a restaurant.

At a real estate development company, we used to drink champagne during afternoon staff meetings!

At one hospital I worked for (I worked in Accounting back then) we'd have afternoon wine and cheese parties if we had a really good quarter.

Then everyone would drive themselves home!

No booze at work. They almost cancelled the alcohol at the Christmas party after work this year. Big companies get concerned that they will be found liable for alcohol related legal issues.

We don't have a company Christmas party, but this past summer once a month between June and October, we had a parking lot party that started at 5:00 (after hours). Not only could we drink, but the company brought in a beer truck and then had a "specialty" drink depending on the theme of the party. I'm not too fond of getting loopy in front of the people who work for me or for the people I work for, so I usually only had 2 drinks before I'd go. It was fun though and a nice change of pace.

I agree with you. I read somewhere once that when at an office party, at the office or elsewhere, you should never forget you are still at work. Your behavior is being judged, whether it should be or not.
