For weight loss, which is more appropriate? A high intensity but shorter cardio workout (20 minutes) or a less intense longer cardio workout (45 minutes).
A little background....
Before joining the Fitness Center, I was doing 3 or 4 mile WATP tape @ 5 times a week. I have been WATPing around 5 months.
Now I have been working out every other day faithfully at my dh's fitness center with an on-hand trainer always available. Sept 29th was my 1 month anniversary of adding weight training to my routine. I currently do 30 minutes of interval training on the elliptical and then 2 sets on each weight machine.
The problem?
I have gained 4 pounds - to be expected when adding weight training, I understand - but they won't go away! No significant change in my measurements either. I am doing WW at home (double checking my info on fitday.com) so my food intake is appropriate.
The question...
Joey (the trainer) keeps increasing the intensity level of the elliptical. If I can do 30 minutes, she says I am not working hard enough and need to increase the intensity. My argument is that I am looking for weight LOSS and need longer cardio workouts so my body has to go to my stored fat. Does anyone know which is correct? I am enjoying the workouts but I would like to see some results!
Help! What should I be doing to stay fit *and* lose weight?

) Good luck, whatever you decide. I'm glad that you are so committed!
