Dumb towel question

As you know, I just retuned from my 1st DVC stay and loved it!!! I have a really dumb question:
The folks staying in the room next to me (hope they aren't DIS'ers and reading this :rotfl: ) weren't the most polite (am I the only one that doesn't step on the flowers off of the patio to run to the pool, or I am I just too polite, that I walk around?) threw their cig butts into the shrubs (not a smoking complaint, I smoke, but am polite about it) husband was spitting in the grass( gross) and here it is: I saw the wife think no one was looking and go the pool (quiet pool, not main) and steal towels (I think 2) to bring to the room w/her. Aren't there towel rules?? Well, it runs in the family because her mother (or whoever) a few days later, went to the pool, didn't see me sitting in the hot tub (it was only 5 am) and took a stack, and I do mean A STACK of towels back to the room. I was agast, but I stayed out of it. I felt like saying something, but but didn't. Did I do the right thing? Or am I wrong in the 1st place?

IMHO, you did the right thing by staying out of it. Based on your description, they probably knew/thought it was wrong, but did it anyway.

People like that are not going to change their behavior just because someone calls them on it. Why take the risk of getting into some type of confrontation and spoiling your vacation? Sometimes I say something (usually only if it involves unsupervised children doing something unsafe), but most of the time I just pretend they don't know any better or that there is a very good reason that I don't know about behind the behavior. Maybe they had a handicapped unit and couldn't figure out how to stop the water from the shower going all over the floor or maybe they had a sick child. You never know.

Best wishes-

P.S. I'd be hard pressed to find a good excuse for the butts, spitting and destruction of the flowers, though. Kind of reminds me of past "trailer trash" discussions. I'd probably just be happy that I wasn't related to them, LOL!

I don't think I'd be so concerned about the pool towels. I know it isn't right, but they make it back to where they belong eventually, unless they are putting them in their suitcases. That would just be crazy, the towels aren't that nice, and besides they would have to live with themselves.

But the destruction to the landscaping is another thing. That is just bad manners, and something that mentioning to them wouldn't change. I think you did the right thing by just minding your business and enjoying the hot tub.

I hope you had a wonderful trip!! Now you can start counting down the days to the next one. :wave2:

Thank you Carol's! :)
Good points made, it didn't even occur to me, they may have had a shower mishap.
Wouldn't have been worth it to butt in. And I was too busy relaxing to disturb myself anyway :rotfl:
When I have the energy, I'll start my next countdown timer :cloud9:

It's been reported that some guides tell new members to go to the pool if they need extra towels so they may not have intentionally broke the rules. We stayed in building 43 at OKW once, across from the Turtle Pond pool and we frequently saw people carrying pool towels out.

you know Athenna, I have been guilty of "borrowing" (as oposed to stealing which would imply that I took them home with me :earseek: :rotfl2: ) but I really don't see why its such a big deal if they all end up in the same place anyway. Even though, I frequently reuse towels, even at home sometimes- with small children sometimes ya just need more than what's provided  especially the few days right before T&T day. If they were borrowing them for malicious reasons, you know like having a football team in a one bedroom :scared1: then that's a bit different. Heck you can always look on the positive side, at least they were clean and fresh smelling if you had a long wait in line for the busses :rotfl2:

I am a guilty "borrower" ..but in all fairness, we were told by a CM after check in that we could get any extra towels we needed at the pool. In my own defense I do not abuse it ( got 2 extras for the Adults hair...and returned them before we left) I also think wearing a towel on the bus (for children) keeps the seat dry for the next person.

Not only do the guides tell guests to take pool towels but I was told once at check in after I requested daily trash/towel that I shouldn't pay for it and just get the towels I need from the pool. MY guess is though that they weren't told that or they wouldn't have been being so sneaky about it. I'd be more upset with the cig butts and spitting.

But so that you know that stuff like this isn't confined to DVC. We spent New Year's this past year at the Grand Floridian. At the pool one afternoon was a young man chewing tobacco and spitting the juice onto the pool deck. I couldn't believe it!
