OK DUMB newbie question... LOL...

If we book our trip pay the $200 dept and then a discount or deal comes out can we change to get the deal????

Also I have read a few places that 2008 rooms are booked and full already - the packages havent come out yet are we going to have a hard time since we have decided to wait for the packages to come out to book our May 08 trip????

There are 24,000 rooms owned by Disney. They're not booked... nor are they even available yet. To book your May package (room/tix/optional dining) you need to wait until Disney releases pricing for 2008. You can book an inaccurately priced room-only reservation (subject to be adjusted up or down depending upon final price) but you cannot turn a room-only into a package (tickets and dining) so it does you no good to book a room right now.

Just wait until they announce their packages. As for changing rates, if Disney announces a deal you can call and see if that deal is applicable to your reservation. Discounts/deals are not across the board, and are subject to blockouts.

You can book a room only right now and then change over to a package deal later on to insure that you get the dates and resort you want.

You CANNOT turn a room-only reservation into a vacation package. The room-only must be cancelled, your credit card refunded, and a package needs to be booked. They are not the same pool of rooms, and in certain cases in certain resorts, once a room is pulled for a room-only reservation releasing it back does not mean you'll be able to get it five minutes later with a vacation package.

If you want a package, book it when packages are released. If you want just a room reservation (no dining plan and separate tickets) then book that right now.

Yikes the CM I just spoke to took my room only reservation and then said there would be no problem adding tickets or ddp to make a pkg. He very nicely explained that it would be a matter of booking the pkg and canceling my current room reservation but said it would be the same.

Its sort of the same, but it really isn't, if this makes sense. :confused3 They can add tickets to a room-only reservation but not the dining plan. That is when the room-only reservation needs to be cancelled and rebooked. The only problem is when you cancel, the room might not immediately come back into inventory, or it can be released overnight. Disney computers don't freeze a particular room.

If you have thoughts about a standard room at Wilderness Lodge then book the room-only. If you are just looking for a package at the other resorts then you won't have a problem waiting until package pricing is released Sometimes room categories are not loaded right when they release the next years' pricing; when they released 2007 pricing there were entire room categories that did not come up at any date for a couple of weeks This is due to any number of reasons--like they're changing the room description or do not have finalized prices for that particular room category.

Of course if you want a suite at the GF or something else which has very low inventory to begin with, then book the RO. but a standard room at a value or moderate won't have problems being booked when package pricing is released.

We should see "Basic" packages pretty soon. Then when tickets and dining is released you just modify the basic package. A Basic package is a room only which can have tickets and dining added to it.

Clear as mud?

That's what a CM told me last week, too.

So is it better to book a package at full price, then call to have the price adjusted after the codes come out? :confused3

Oops, I just re-read LindyN's message. I hadn't heard of a "basic" package. When I made my room-only reservation (and asked about converting it to a package later), the CM didn't mention that option.

I called to check on our room only ressie today because we got a PIN in the mail and I was told to call back on June 23 to book a "basic" package ;)

OOOOHHHH, when did you talk to Disney? I've been calling almost every day since June 13th to find out about the 2008 rate prices. Did Disney actually tell you to call on the 23rd? All I've been told is that the rates might come out in July.

I will be checking online this weekend... EEEK!!! I hope the 23rd is true... but I will just keep waiting and waiting and waiting
