dumb question regarding TIW

We used to do DDP but with the increase of price it seems not to worth it anymore. We own DVC and now TIW is offered to DVC members, I have a very dumb question.

We are a family of four (2 adults and 2 kids). Do i need to purchase TIW cards for everyone or I only need one?

Also, my sister-in-law and her family is thinking about tagging along but they are not annual pass holder nor DVC members, can I purchase TIW for them?

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks.

The DVC TIW card is $100. One card can be used for up to 10 guests dining together. So basically, for your situation, you only need one card, unless there will be more than 10 people. The TIW card is only available to guests who are Florida residents, AP holders, and now, DVC members.

Here is the TIW website:

A TIW card is good for the holder and up to 9 guests. The check for your group cannot be split and official rules say that the TIW card holder must pay for the meal. You may find that the server does not care who pays the bill but that is against policy so you should not count on that possibility.

Thanks for the link. It's $100 and if you are an Annual Pass holder - $75 - am I reading right? We might be getting An AP for the first time for our Dec. trip so we might consider a TIW card.

Been a cardholder since 2005 (back when it was called the DDE card). We love this card and always have one. It's funny how the rules have changed over the years. It use to be written that the cardholder did not have to be the one paying the bill, they only had to be part of the dining party. This was the first time I've seen it actually written like this. I won't show that to my kids since they sometimes pick up the check and pay. So far the servers have never had a problem with it. However they are strict about not splitting the check as noted in the guidelines. I love the free valet perk too. Keep in mind that most of the time (as noted) they will ask to see your dining receipt when picking up your car. It's only for 3 hours too. Also when dropping off your car you do need to tell them you are a TIW cardholder and they may ask to see the card -- they need this information so they note it on your "ticket" for the valet service. We use this perk when eating at the GF since self parking here stinks. Also don't lose that card because there is a $50 replacement fee and they do enforce that one. Often they do request a picture ID and during our last trip in January 2012 I was carded 3 times. Keep in mind that when I pay, I'm using my room card with my name on it and my TIW card with my name on it. I don't have an issue with them carding me as it is their right, this is just a warning. I was carded at Olivia's (which I'm carded here about 50% of the time), also at the 50s Prime Time and almost always at the food courts at both Pop and the All/Stars. There is no renewal for this card and it is active the moment you purchase it, so shouldn't be bought in advance. Our last card expired the end of October (we were there then). During our January trip I bought my newest card and it's good for 13 months so doesn't expire until Feb. 2013. During our January trip we reached our goal of the card paying for itself. Just a little something we like to do by adding up the discounts during that trip until the card "pays" for itself. So from now on it's all a true discount. We will use it for our 3 week trip starting Apr. 19th, our 2 week trip in October and our 11 day trip for January 2013. So we will get alot of usage from our card....esp. our next trip where we go from a party of 2 to a party of 6 and then a party of 9 during that timeframe. We actually like that the gratuity is added in, it's makes less work for me. Sometimes we add a little more for better service.

Yes. $100 for DVC members, $75 for AP holders.

I forgot about the free valet parking . . . could have used that earlier this month at the Poly. I agree with GF self-parking . . . we stayed there this last time and I could not believe how far it is from the resort . . . they should have a shuttle service! I don't specifically calculate our breakpoint at when the card is paid for, but I am pretty certain we hit it during that 3rd or 4th ADR. I like having the tip added in as well. I don't think we have ever been carded. I do obsess about where I keep the card . . . I don't want to be hit with that $50 lost card fee!

I also obsess about this too. I was happy to see that they make a special TIW sleeve to keep your card in now. When we got our new one in January it has it's only little card holder (like APs do). I use to just use an old AP holder with a big Mickey sticker on it. I lay the sleeve on the table when I give it to the server and it reminds me that I'm waiting for my card to return.

We had it too when we were annual pass holders. One trip to Victoria and alberts and it pays for itself. You can only use it at sit down (table service) restaurants not at quick dining locations or food carts. We are a family of 5 so saved a ton over the year we were ap holders.

For the most part , this is true. But, there are some exceptions to this. You can use the TiW card at the food court at Pop Century, the Flame Tree BBQ at Animal Kingdom Park, and the food courts at All-Star resorts. I think there might be others as well.

You really need to look at the TiW website to check which eateries honor the TiW card.

Yes, and also other QS locations at the Animal Kingdom -- I've use it at the burger place and the pizza place. And add the food court at PO-FQ and I've read at SSR food court too. And lets not forget the "lounges"! We stop by the tune-in lounge at the studios and get a drink to go.

It is only good at full service restaurants except in locations where Disney doesn't operate a full-service restaurant. Therefore it is good at the value resort food courts and all Animal Kingdom quick-service locations except Yak & Yeti quick-serve. The value resorts do not have full-service restaurants and AK's full-service restaurants are not run by Disney.

I think it is really nice that the card is good for 13 months. Finally a useful perk for us DVC'ers that can only make one trip a year. We can actually get two uses out of it. I will be getting one this December :thumbsup2

It was just the two of us this trip but it was non-parks and heavy dining, so we got the TIW and came out ahead. We did Victoria and Albert's, Raglan Road, Shula's and two visits to Olivia's. We plan at least one more trip in the next 13 months-probably two so...thank you for TIW for DVCers! It makes those overpriced drinks seem a bit more reasonable.
We locked up our card in the Owners Locker so I can't lose it or forget it!

tablesinwonderland.com is a new and official site giving the benefits and places you can use it. :)

Anna not sure when your trip is in Dec BUT I was thinking about the TIW card (we will have APs) but then I saw blackout dates for the holidays and I figured that it kind of defeated the purpose for this trip at least because of those blackouts.

Just an FYI if you are going to be there for the holidays.

Thanks all. Someone mentioned the card will be activitates once I ordered, does that mean I should wait until my trips getting closer. How do I order one. Can I get one when I checked in at my hotel?

Thank you. Will double check the dates, we will be there early December so hopefully holiday period is Christmas week/NYE.

All you have to do is go to guest services at any of the parks when you get there. If you have an AP, they can look you up in the system, but if you are going to purchase the DVC TIW card, you will need your DVC membership card. It only takes a few minutes for the transaction, so I am not sure ordering the card ahead of time is necessary, unless you have a table service meal planned before you will be at a park.

Yes it is the holiday themselves that are the blackouts you should be fine early Dec.
