Questions, questions. And most of them silly I know

Here's another one: When going into a restaurant or diner, do we take a seat and wait for the waitress, or go straight to the counter to be taken to a seat?

And another: Are children allowed in bars?

They are silly, minor questions, but I have no idea, and I hate looking like I don't know what I'm doing, making the wrong decision and looking stupid

When we eat id WDW restuarants, the table service type, you have to go to the window and give your name and party size, and if you are early they tend to give you a pager which vibrates and lights up when your table and server are ready, they then take the pager off you and sit you at your table.

Counter service you tend to join the end of the queue and order, a bit like our fast food chains.

If eating off site, we used to go to ponderosa walk in pay for your meal and then get seated.


In Epcot there is a rose and crown pub, I think kids are allowed but do take my word!

Also DTD has some clubs, there are two where you have to be over 21 to enter.

In table restaurants in WDW you need to go upto the Cast Member at the restaurant entrance (usually at a small desk or lectern). If you have made an Advanced Dining Reservation (ADR) you should arrive around 15 mins. before you reservation time and you will be told to wait until called or given a vibrating beeper that alerts you when your table is ready. If you haven't got an ADR, then you will be told how long to expect to wait before a table becomes available - this may be quite awhile depending on restaurant, time and time of year etc.
If staying on-site you can book 10 days worth of ADRs, 180 days before your arrival date


I've only ever been to the Ponderosa Steakhouse outside WDW and there you place you order at the till as you walk in and then a waitress shows you to a table.

With counter server you go straight to the CM on the tills and place you order, pay and then you walk forward to the collection hatch and wait for your order.

Children are allowed in bars, but no at the bar itself. Age limits for purchasing and drinking alcohol are very strict in the US and you may be asked for photo ID even if you are 30+

Having stayed offsite and eaten in places like the Olive Garden, Tony Roma's, Race Rock there is someone at a desk just inside who will let you know how long the wait will be, they will take your name and then call out when a table is ready.

I would take it as the greatest compliment if I was asked for ID. But that will never happen

Actually I do have another question. I'll ask here first rather than start yet another thread!

I know there are the themed dinner nights, Wishes, Illuminations, the Disney shows, Cirque du soleil etc, and also plenty of night life for over 21's. But are there many more informal places a family could go, sit down at a table and just have a relaxing beer whilst watching some light entertainment. I dunno, a bit of music, comedy etc? Just somewhere to unwind a little? I'm not a big drinker, but I would like to be able to just relax with a beer some nights and still have a little light entertainment for the family. We are staying at the Comfort in about 1 mile away from DTD.
