Dumb Poly Questions

Newcomer, trying to learn how to use the boards still and although I'm experienced at the parks, I've always been a day guest in the past (folks live in Orlando). Now my MIL wants to take the whole tribe down from MA to The World and has decided she wants to stay at the Poly. I told her it was expensive, and we will have 8-10 people in our party so we'd need more than one room, but she was undeterred! :earseek:
So now I need to know: two standard rooms will do it, right? I found information saying up to 5 could stay in a room...but other information saying 4? Can you get both an AP AND a AAA discount? We will have both so if you could combine that would be amazing! I just remember that my grandparents always got a senior discount PLUS their AAA at various hotels, but I do realize this is Disney so I'm not holding my breath! They gotta make their money! :earboy2:
How are the laundry facilities there? We have a baby so not doing laundry for a week is just not an option. How about entertainment for "unsupervised" teenage boys? MIL has 4 of them and although they are well-behaved, she is worried about safety (which I assured her was not an issue) and complaints (which I'm not so sure about) if they were to be out in the evening unsupervised. Anyone ever been to the character breakfast? MIL loves Chip and Dale so if they are always at the breakfast, we would certainly have to do that! How are the pools in late November? Too cold?Any and all tips on the Polynesian would be appreciated. This might be the only "big" trip to WDW MIL ever makes, and she wants to make it very special.
One last thing...what do you think would be the best way to book this? If she is getting the AAA discount will she need to do it through AAA? I feel confident doing it all myself, but I know she wouldn't, so if there's any advantage to doing it ourselves, I'll handle it. If not, and we could get an even better deal buying a package through AAA or somewhere else, she would prefer that. TIA! :earsgirl:

The rooms at the Poly have 2 Queen beds and a day bed. The day bed is suitable for a small to medium sized person, but a full-sized adult might be a little uncomfortable. The rooms are very large however, and there is plenty of extra floor space if you wanted to bring an air mattress. Up to 5 adults are allowed to stay in one room. The laundry facilites are more than enough, there are plenty of washers and dryers. There is really no safety question, the grounds are very well lit and there are security guards that drive around in golf carts. Unsupervised teens should not be a problem, there is an excellent arcade and the pools are open late. The GCH has some activities for younger children, stories and the like. Also, being on the monorail route makes sending the kids off to the MK a piece of cake.

Yes, the Poly has laundry facilities. The dryers were great.

Yes, the pools are heated throughout the year. You'll not have a problem. We went this past January and people were swimming!!

TIP ---- When you go to the park Epcot......it's shorter to walk from the Poly to the TTC monorail instead of getting on the resort monorail and doing the loop and switching, etc. Just walk over to the TTC monorail for Epcot.

Have dinner at Ohana's during the fireworks at Wishes. Ask for a window seat.

Also, it was fun taking the boat to MK instead of the monorail.

Plan on some time renting water mice. If the kids are old enough, THEY WOULD LOVE IT!!!

Plan on some rest non-park days and do other things, like swim in pools, and renting water mice, DisneyQuest, downtown Disney, minitaute golf, etc.

Enjoy and thank your mother in law!!!

I'm pretty sure you can not combine discounts ~ it would have to be one or the other. If AP discounts are offered for your time frame and for the Polynesian, I think AP discount would be better than AAA. You do not need to book through AAA to get room only discounts, you can book directly with Disney and give them your AAA number.

I have heard you can not get AAA discounts on packages through Disney. If you want the package (room, MYW tickets, dining plan) I think you can get a discount booking through AAA instead of through Disney directly.

Yep, you can't combine discounts. If you book through Disney with a AA discount and later can get an AP discount or decide to go with the MYW packages, you can switch. If you book through AAA, you can only deal with them. So I would book it yourself through Disney and ask for the AAA rate or work with Dreamsunlimited.

If you plan to do laundry often, you might want to request Tokelau or Raratonga to be closer to the building that houses the laundry room.

The daybed is a full size twin so most adults should be fine on it. I don't know that will be true when the new furniture is in place but it is the case now.
