I know this is going to sound really idiotic...

I want to ring the Sequoia lodge to request a room on a specific floor, thing is I get really flustered on the phone, specially when I don't know the person I'm talking to.

When I ring are they going to speak in French so will I need to do my 'je suis tres desole ...I'm english' bit?

You guys who have done this before, what do you usually say? What info are they going to want from me?

Just because I'm nervous, I don't want to ruin my chances of a room on the 6th or 7th floor! I know they can't promise anything but I'd like to try!

Any advice for a big silly????

Sorry I don't have any info. for you but I totally understand getting flustered on the phone while speaking a second language. That is not at all uncommon! I am always getting tongue tied while talking on the phone in Turkish! No worries - I would imagine the CMs understand what it feels like to communicate on the phone in a second or third language. Hope you get some understanding CMs (some English speakers) and get the floor you want.

I feel exactly the same! Anytime I have phoned the CM has switched immediately to English on hearing my first stumbling French word.

Just say Hi do you speak english.. and i'm sure they will.

This is what happened to me:

*Bonjour sorry i am Italian and i do not speak French, do you speak English?*

*Oh you're Italian, that's great as i am too!!!*

So don't worry, they usually speak a couple of languages and if you are lucky enough you will be answered by an English man/lady working in DLRP

Don't worry at all, if you're calling the hotel you will usually speak to a member of staff from the hotel reception team - and in my experience, they all speak and understand English. I've never had a problem calling the hotel, asking in English for what I'd like, and having the conversation in English.
