Do you feel the idenity of all defendents should be hidden unless they are convicted? I understand where you are coming from. These boys will probably be labeled rapists for a long time regardless of actual or legal guilt but why stop at those accused of rape.

Once someone is indicted, it's public record. They will or will not be "convicted" after a trial. The Grand jury just made a determination that there was enough evidence (which we aren't privy to at this point) to proceed with an arrest, arraignment, and most likely, a trial.

However, just because someone is a stripper does not mean they can't be raped.

Just because someone is drunk, does not mean they can't be raped.

Shows like CSI have promoted the idea that there will always be DNA to conclusively prove guilt. Lack of DNA evidence does not automatically mean innocence.

Indictments are a matter of public record and that shouldn't be changed because the defendants are clean-cut white kids from Duke.

I'll wait to see what evidence is presented, but the case does not sit right with me.

So far, all we have is a case of he said/she said and sadly --- that means that all people are left with is who they find to be the most believable.

I think I'm with the "all or none" philosophy as well. I say I think I am, because I haven't devoted alot of time to think about it, but gut said yes.

I agree that the alleged rape victim should also have her name put out there but not because I think it is unfair to the accused rapists not to. The reason they do not put the rape victim's name out there is from the archaic beleif that being raped is something one should be ashamed of and stems from a time where a girl's prospects for being married might be ruined if it is found out she is no longer pure.

Rape is a crime of violence and there should be no shame associated with being the victim of this hideous crime.

Agree with you on all points. If these guys did it, by all means they ought to pay the price.

Oh, I agree. Race has been played from the beginning along with the usual Jesse Jackson involvement. Along with the D.A being up for re-election.

As someone once said, "you can get an indictment on a ham sandwich". It is too easy to get an indictment and therefore I agree that these names should not have been released.

Is that in all cases of alleged rape, or only when the alleged perpetrators come from priveledged homes?
