I really want to buy the Duggars some condoms. They really really need them.

But they believe that condoms/birth control are wrong. If they become pregnant, they are going to accept it and believe that it is a gift from God. But.....they really need to quit! :lmao:

When we were in NYC there were selling Obama condoms and Palin condoms. Okay OT, but we thought it was funny!

Why? Are they not supporting all of their children? Are they hurting anyone?

They support their entire family and they do not take any government support. As long as they are able to care, feed and give love to the kids then can have as many as they want.

It was a joke...

But yes. They are never going to be able to develope as strong of an emotional connection with their kids, as someone who has a normal amount of kids. At this point, I think the only reason they're having more is so that their TV show stays on air. Maybe I'm just being super duper cynical.

I don't believe they are having children for the sake of their TV show. This is part of their religious beliefs - that they accept all the children God sends to them. I don't share those beliefs, but I can certainly respect them.

In terms of having a strong emotional connection and relationship - I certainly don't think it's impossible. Both parents are home pretty much full-time and the children are homeschooled. Yes, their time is divided between a large number of children, but there is more of it. I don't think that it's much different than a family with, say, four or five children and two parents who both work full-time and maybe travel sometimes for work. Those parents might have a couple of waking hours a day to give attention to their five kids; the Duggars have twelve or more hours a day to divide between their 17.

I have to say of all the New Families I think they seem the most normal .

But I do like that Quote just as the Kids screaming and I think he is number 12 or 13 on the list lol

Only my observation, but I do believe that you are being super duper cynical.

I believe that you can form an emotional connection with any number of children. Just ask a dedicated teacher. They can form emotional connection with hundreds of children over the course of a career. I know a man who is retiring this year after 36 years of teaching. I believe that he genuinely loved hundreds of his students.

It is like saying you can love one child more than you can love three (or ten or twenty.) Love is not a finite thing. It grows and grows and grows.

I understand that this family is really very different (odd), but as was stated, they support themselves, aren't hurting anyone, are following the convictions of their faith, and above all they seem to love each other.

I think it is surprising how they are turning out to look like the 'normal' ones when you have Jon and Kate falling apart, octomom, etc. I just hope the media doesn't affect their lives in a negative way as it has so many others. They are opening themselves up for it by being in the spotlight, but so far seem pretty grounded and impervious to it all.

I agree, and as little as I have seen them, and it has been extremely little; their children appear to be well behaved.

They don't care for their own children:rolleyes1

They assign older children to care for the younger ones 24/7. They don't even get up in the middle of the night with their children. The parents only tend to the personal needs of the baby.

That is so untrue. It really sad how rumors like that get started

Did you see the show where Michele says that they kids (same sex) all room together so at night they can get up with their buddy:confused3

Why are you saying that is a rumor?

The Buddies brush teeth, bathe, feed, fix hair, etc. of the younger ones every single day.

Hentob is correct. More than once Michele has state that as soon as the baby reaches a certain age, he or she is placed with an older child. The older child, or "buddy", is then responsible for the care of the younger buddy.

My favorite quote from the Duggars is from the episode where Anna is getting a baby check up. It was maaaybe unintentional, but I find Josh to be skeevy so I don't know. I won't repeat it here because it's slightly dirty, but it's what Josh says in reference to Anna having difficulty swallowing her prenatal vitamins.

Though, I love me some Duggars! They're coming to a church near me on Monday and my friend and I are way too excited.

I don't share all of the Duggar's religious beliefs (I am a Christian, but I don't believe birth control to be wrong), but from what I have seen on TV, their children seem happy, intelligent, well cared for, and well behaved. As far as I'm concerned, some of the other TV parents could learn a thing or two from the Duggars.

While I agree that the older kids play a large hand in helping to raise their older siblings, I have never seen any indication on the show that Michelle and Jim Bob aren't the primary ones who look after the kids. I don't think it's a crime for an older sibling to help a younger one brush their teeth and get ready for bed.

I enjoy watching when the cousin, Jim Bob's niece, is on. While she respects the beliefs of the Duggars, she has her own way of doing things that adds a touch of humor to the show.
