Duffy coming to Disney stores Uk.?

I belive he is being launched in the UK on the 13th December. I'm in London on that date so will be poping into the Oxford Street Disney Store to do some Christmas Disney shopping.

Yes it says on Facebook "a couple of plush, several outfits and a book". Great idea if you bought Duffy in the parks to be able to add the outfits.

Enjoy your Christmas shopping.

I don't actually like this idea - I personally think that buying Duffy related stuff in DLP means more than just picking it up in store. There are more memories attached and each one comes with their own story i.e You tend to remember "when" you bought it and why, rather than a normal everyday trip to the Disney Store.

I know what you mean Lisa, when I look at the things I have bought in DLP over the years I can tell you which store and on which trip we got it. Unfortunatley for me the days of a normal everyday trip to the Disney Store has long gone as our local store in Cambridge is now closed. And it means a trip down to London to visit our nearest store - so every trip to the Disney Store for me is still special.

We also try and visit the nearest Disney Store to us when we are traveling around the country too. This weekend we are going to Edinburgh so a visit to that store is on the list of things to do as well as visit the pandas in the zoo.

Oh I totally get that too when people don't live near stores and that in itself, is a special trip :) I still don't like the park merchandising being available though, but the trips to the Oxford Street store are always great fun! I spend hours in there just talking to CM's and buy very little lol! (Hull Store however should be avoided at all cost as its probably smaller in size of the Covent Garden Store, and not worth a visit....) :-)

Oh :sad1::sad1::sad1: please come visit the Hull store if you are ever near. I am a CM there and although we may be smaller than some stores I don't think we are the smallest and we would love to see you.
I can also honestly say that the majority of our CM's are disney nuts :goodvibes:goodvibes

I was chatting to one of the CMs at the Milton Keynes DS this past weekend and she turned out to be a big Vinylmation and pin collector, and is off to Disneyland Paris in about 5 weeks. Always great when the CMs are enthusiastic and knowledgeable, which more often than not they are these days.

As for DLP merchandise being sold on the DS I'm all for it. The holiday is expensive enough and it's not always possible to buy all the souvenirs you may want as well. To be able to do that at a later date is fantastic. It's also great at Christmas as it means you can surprise kids with Disneyland Paris goodies even though you may not have been to the park for a good few months. It's also great advertising for Disneyland Park, which is always a good thing. They only sell a small selection compared to what is available actually on the resort so the majority still remains DLP exclusives.

I don't really see a down side to this for people that want to buy more like us it's great we can give friends an family ideas for DD for birthday Christmas presents.

People that don't like it don't buy it just because they sell it doesn't mean to you have to. You can still buy it in your special place for special memories.

::yes::

My throughts exactly.

If you want them and (like me) aren't going to Disney soon then it's great news.

If you don't want to buy them in the UK, then don't. :thumbsup2

I kind of see both sides here ;). I also said I wasn't sure about Duffy being in store as I sort of saw him as a park exclusive (in Europe anyway). I am sure my DDs will be thrilled to see him in our DS (which is a fair way away so we don't visit that often either). I also remember our story of when/where he was purchased for them so can see the point. But, I also see the point that you don't have to buy in the UK and can wait for a trip, if you are lucky enough!

"They only sell a small selection compared to what is available actually on the resort so the majority still remains DLP exclusives."

But, actually overall, my point was that they are eroding away the park exclusives more and more - the park now sells a lot of generic Disney Store stuff and it's getting harder and harder to find merchandise which is exclusive to a certain shop in the park. Look at the WoD - how many people came back and expressed disappointment at it selling the same old park and DS merchandise - not many exclusives. So, I'm quite pleased to read that the US are having more of a say on the what features in the park shops and that they want the shops to be more product specific which is quite nice.

It's hard to strike a balance I suppose. And yes, it is a good way of publicising DLRP :thumbsup2.

Totally agree about park specific stuff.

But I guess I just don't count Duffy as a 'parks' thing.

I want my park stuff to be about the park/hotels/attractions. So for DLRP we bought an amazing 20th print with all the specific rides and icons of DLRP. And I love the EPCOT retro branded stuff amd all the hotel specific goodies from WDW.

I see Duffy as a 'cute Disney thing' and am more than happy to buy him stuff from anywhere that's cute and Disney. Lol.

It'd be good if there were outfits you could only get him at the parks though. So a special 20th anniversary suit from DLRP and a special Animal Kingdom suit from WDW etc. those I wouldn't want to see in the Disney store as much.

But asa for the generic Duffy stuff - share the love I say.

I know what you mean Torsie - I know Tinks also said Duffy was already for sale in the US stores. I think it is because we bought ours at DLRP and at the time you couldn't get here so it felt a little bit more special if you see what I mean?

But yes, I think LE park outfits would be amazing. I did wonder if they would bring out all the outfits in DS. ::yes::

I really hope they do keep (and get more) park exclusives. It is part of the appeal of shopping out there for me - looking for nice, unique, Disney merchandise you know you can't find in your local DS/supermarket/bargain poundland/primark - basically anywhere these days! :lmao:

I know what you mean about DLP every day merchandise being in the Disney store. We bought Elsie a Pluto stuff toy in Disneyland Paris only to find the exact same pluto in our store cheaper :/ clothes are very similar and most of the toys are the same. I think it's sad when we went to Davy Crockett when I was younger we bought Davy Crockett flags, magnets, car licence plate type signs when we went in September there was nothing not even a pin. There doesn't seem to be any resort specific merchandise any more :(

Aww if I had known that I'd have bugged the hell out if you ;-) (The staff were really lovely though!!) I think I've been spoiled with Oxford Street but when I am next in Hull, I will make sure I visit :-) x

I guess its just a start and if it's going to be very popular they will just add more... at least they made it before xmas so that will make lot of people happy...

Yes that's true. I love the mickey with Duffy he may be added to DD Christmas list x

I NEED the pirate outfit for our Disney cruise next May! I already have the sailor outfit for him, but I need the pirate one for pirate night now :)

Also having just been to Disneyland Paris the prices for Duffy and costumes on the Disney Store UK look VERY good - Duffy in DLP is 30 Euros (v.s. £20) and the sailor outfit is around 16 Euros (v.s. £8)!

They have park specific smaller 12" bears (I have a DCA Duffy, and there is also a Disneyland CA one in a Goofy outfit, as well as the 20th anniversary bear at DLP) but it would be nice if they also had park specific outfits for the larger 18" bears!

I got mine in DLP in March and paid a lot more then the UK prices as well...

Although at least when I look at it, I'm reminded of a great holiday :)

feel free to bug any of us. However if you don't make it before March 17th we will not be there to help you because Disney are closing our store. We are all devastated :sad1:
ETA, We got our Duffy in this week and we have all fallen in love with the sailor costume :)
