Duct Tape to Prevent Blisters - Crazy Idea?

So my feet are super blister prone. I get them all the time from shoes when walking. I have tried putting band aids on the hot spots, but they rub off. Blister pads are too bulky. I've heard people talk about moleskin, but I've only seen it at sporting goods stores and it is expensive. So I'm thinking about getting some of that colorful duct tape and putting small strips on my feet where my shoes rub. I figure it will look like a neon band aid from a distance, and as a bonus the leftover tape can be used around the house. What do you think? Totally stupid idea? I don't want to be limping around on our trip in August.

Amazon carries Moleskin and I don't think it's too bad a price.

Also, check Wal-mart. That's where we found it and the price was much better.

I guess duct tape would work. :confused3 You could always get lots of colors and match them to your outfit for the day(s).

Did you ever see the Mythbusters episode where they built stuff with duct tape? Funny stuff. They even built a bridge. :rotfl2:

Get the moleskin. I am the same way you are. After one miserable WDW trip I started using the moleskin as a preventative instead of waiting to see if I would get a blister. DD's and I were just at DW last week. It worked like a charm.

I cut the moleskin to cover the balls of my feet. I haven't had a problem when doing that. You can get a roll of it at Walgreens or Target.

Enjoy you trip.

I am also very blister prone and it is not fun. As you said band aids don't really help. I have used the blister pads and they have been pretty good. I have also used a product called "body glide" (got mine at a sporting goods store). It is an anti-chafing stick..kinda looks like a deodorant stick. Runners use it and I have heard that divers use it too. Just rub all over your feet and it takes away some of the friction from your socks and shoes rubbing. I would also suggest getting moisture wicking socks. they help keep your feet dryer. Hope this helps!

I have never personally used it, but Len Testa from the Unofficial Guide has mentioned that he swears by it.

I think you'll have better luck with moleskin or bodyglide. I tried wearing duct tape as a home cure for a wart (well..still trying) and it comes off as soon as my feet start to sweat.

Get some BodyGlide, it will prevent blisters and hotspots. You just rub it on your feet in the morning before putting shoes & socks on and you're good to go. If you have BodyGlide and use it, you shouldn't need moleskin, but if it will make you feel better get some just in case.

On our trip in Feb my daughter and I both used body glide on our feet every day. We usually get blisters but this time neither of us even got a hot spot. I think i paid $5 for a small size of the body glide at a sporting goods store but it was very worth it!

If you go with mole skin for prevention, try and get the non-padded type. It has a lower profile and won't rub off as easily. It also stays on better in the water. An alternative to putting it on your feet is to put it on your shoes in places where it might rub. This works especially well on sandle straps.

For the best price look for the Dr Scholl mole skin at Walmart and get it in a roll rather than the sheets. The roll allows you to plaster it on in large pieces if needed, and should last a long time.

I purchased moleskin at Walmart in the foot products section (by the insoles, foot powder, etc.). It was like 3.20 or something for a big square pad that you can cut into strips.

My anti-blister routine:

- Put Moleskin on the most blister-prone areas first.
- Rub BodyGlide all over the rest of your feet.
- Wear two pairs of brand new, cushiony socks.
- Wear sneakers or other supportive shoes that have been broken-in.
- After returning to hotel, immediately take off shoes, socks, and Moleskin, and soak feet in a warm tub. Keep feet elevated when relaxing.

I used to have horrible blisters and foot pain after lots of walking. The above routine has helped a lot!

Another body glide fan. Used to get blisters every Disney trip. Haven't had one since I started using it. I used to get blisters every time I got a new pair of shoes. Now I use body for that too and I hardly ever get blisters.

Here's my solution (I used to get them a lot too):
Wear Crocs (only the name brand, not the knock-offs) Flip Flops. I can wear them all day, they have support and prevent my feet from sweating. In addition, if they get wet, they dry super fast.

And yes, I have taken them to Disneyland, Disney World, San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World, etc. Outside of work and church, they are pretty much all I wear. You might ask why, well, in addition to the reasons that I have outlined above, my knees (which are bad) hurt less when wearing them vs. other shoes. To me that is the best reason of all to wear shoes. Yes, I know they may not look the nicest to other people, but I hurt less when wearing them and find them more comfortable overall, so that is reason enough to wear them.

Just a warning though, you MUST break in a new pair by wearing them in places where you will not be doing as much walking as the places above before wearing them in the parks, or you will get blisters. I basically wear them for at least two weeks before taking a new pair of shoes into the parks.

There are many, many styles of Crocs, including many styles of flip flops, I have my favorites (which actually do have support in them, some don't), but everyone will have their own preferences. I am only letting you know what works for me personally. I am not trying to start a debate (which I know can happen when crocs are mentioned), just giving my advice for how I avoid blisters in the parks and since I go to Disneyland regularly (we live about 15 minutes away, yes it can take longer to get from the parking lot to the gate than for us to drive from our house to the parking lot, but that's another story), I definitely have had my share of blisters over the years and have tried many different kinds of shoes and overall, nothing has worked better for me. I originally tired crocs because of these forums, so I must say thank you for that.

Again, this is just what has worked for me, your mileage may vary, but considering you can usually get the flip flop styles (that have support) for around $15, it's worth a shot in my opinion.

Another Body Glide fan here. I have used it 9 trips and never gotten a blister, the stuff is great.

I tried it once. The tape stuck to my sock. My sock bunched up just a smidgey smidge from being stuck to the tape. The teeny little buch up started giving me a blister.

I second the Crocs solution. Get the name brand (crocs) and order them a size larger than you normally wear.

I wear mine with socks. I know it looks ridiculous, but the Crocs are so ugly that IMO it doesn't matter.

Good luck, whatever you do!

I wouldn't do it. I'm guessing that maybe your feet are prone to sweating more than the average person's, and that makes them more susceptible to blisters. I would be concerned about what would happen with the duct tape and perspiration - would the tape come off the skin, or would the skin become sort of "water logged" with the tape still stuck? If the latter happened it could be an ugly scene at the end of the day.

I would do everything possible to keep your feet dry: 2 pairs of socks, changed every so often, could do wonders. And, moleskin really is fantastic - if you put that stuff on top of a blister and you can't feel the friction at all, although it is a bit thick and can make your shoe too tight.

I get blisters on the bottom of my feet even with wearing socks, if I do not use a product like BodyGlide. You will need to go to a sporting goods store to find this product. Blisters happen whenever your feet sweat and there is any sliding of your foot and shoe.

There are other products that work just like BodyGlide, that you can get at any drug store. The one I use and can find anywhere is Band-Aid's Blister Prevention. I find this in the aisle with the other Band-Aid items (bandages). This product is so small, I always carry it with me in my purse. Also Dr Scholl has one. This is with the other Dr Scholl feet products. In a pinch, I have also heard that some people have used anti-perspirant stick on their feet.

I apply the stick every morning over the bottom and sides of my feet and it is usually good all day. After swimming, I reapply it. It feels sticky at first, just ignore it, because once you have your shoes on, you stop feeling it. And the result is no blisters.

Moleskin is for blisters.

Duct tape is one of the remedies for plantars fascitis. Actually, dancers tape is recommended over duct tape.
