DUCK at Jiko or Chefs de France?

We have ADRs at each place on back to back nights.

At chefs, torn between:

Duck
Short Ribs

At jiko, torn between:

shrimp curry
duck
grouper
filet

i don't HAVE to get duck at either place but would love to hear which place has the better duck as well as whether to even order the duck over the other choices.

Thanks!

I've never had the duck at Jiko, but I thought the duck at Chefs was just okay. A little overdone and not too flavorful. I also did have pretty high expectations, which didn't help. Most of the good reviews of Chefs I've seen have been about the more "traditional" entrees, such as the quiche, croque monsieur, macaroni gratin, short ribs, and roast chicken, so I think I would stick with that :goodvibes

I've had the duck at Chefs many times & always enjoy it. I haven't eaten at Jiko yet, but I'm interested in hearing reviews on the duck. Jiko's on our short list for the next few months, & I was thinking of getting duck or one of the fish dishes. I would think Jiko's duck would be better, due to one being a signature restaurant & one not. Whether or not that's the case, I would & will order the duck at Chefs again w/o reservation.

Jiko is known for their filet. I've also had the fish (not grouper that night, I believe it was wreckfish as a special, but similar) and it was quite good.

I've had the short ribs at Chefs and was underwhelmed.

Perhaps go with the duck at chefs and something else at Jiko, though, as was mentioned, I would expect anything at Jiko to be better quality than at Chefs due to it being a signature (and one of our favorite signatures).

I love duck but Chefs' duck ranks pretty close to the bottom of any I've had. It was so overdone and dry; very disappointing. I enjoy Chefs and have had better meals there and I would be very reluctant to order the duck again.

At Jiko I generally only get appetizers anymore because I've found them to be so much better than the entrees. I did have the filet last time but only because I wanted the risotto that it now comes with (which is so much better than the mac and cheese side). I only had a few bites of the beef but it was tasty enough.

I've had both the duck and the short rib at Les Chefs and much prefer the short rib. The duck was moist, but not very flavorful.

We've had the shrimp curry and Filet at Jiko. The curry was good but spicy. The filet was grilled perfectly, but I found the Cabernet reduction to be on the strong side. The corn risotto and mushrooms were very good.

Other places where I've ordered duck are Le Cellier - the duck meatball appetizer on the lunch menu is my favorite and Yak & Yeti where the duck entree was very good.

Thanks everyone. At this point I am definitely going to order short ribs at Chefs -- still torn on the options at Jiko, so if anyone has had the Jiko options, please weigh in!

When will you be eating at Jiko? I'll be eating there on the 11th & plan to order the duck or a fish dish. If I go before you, I'll let you know what I ordered & how I thought it was. Although, I may not be the best judge. :rotfl: I've always enjoyed the duck at Chefs. It never appeared dry or overdone to me. That's not really surprising though. As we all know, inconsistency is the name of the game in WDW restaurants.

Here's a link to DisneyCoolKitten's Jiko review from last night: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2867146&page=2 Her mom ordered the shrimp curry. She ordered short ribs.

We ate at Jiko for the first time this past August and my son ordered the duck. Here is that part of my review...

Tyler ordered the Seared Barbarie Duck Breast with Potato and Spinach Masala, Royal Trumpet Mushrooms, and a Port Emulsion…

He did not like it. I think he was expecting the duck breast to be like a chicken breast…not sliced and marinated. But I was prepared for that. I allowed him to order it knowing I’d be ok eating it. So we switched. I did like mine better but whatcha gonna do??? It is sort of Asian tasting…at least it was to me. It was definitely good…no doubt about it. It wasn’t something I’d order again but not because it wasn’t good, just not my thing. Tyler did try it and said it was ok but he wasn’t gonna eat it, I could tell so I gave up my Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon.

Don't you just love being a parent? We always get stuck with what the kids don't want.

Thanks for posting the picture. I now know I won't be ordering duck. I may love the duck, but the dish as a whole doesn't look appealing to me.

thanks for the link to the shrimp picture and the duck picture.

That shrimp curry didn't look too good to me - I love thai curry dishes but that one looked more Indian-influenced, not my thing.

The duck looks okay - I was going to get a filet at Yachtsman's two nights later; that is why I was not excited about the filet at Jiko's.

So awaiting a grouper review or picture as I think the Duck may be slightly ahead of the filet.

Decisions decisions.

Oh - we will be at Jiko two nights after you, tarheel!

I was just reading your reviews. I'd like to have the duck with the risotto & mushrooms that come with the filet. :rotfl:

snoopy352,
It appears the grouper dish is different from what is listed on WDWinfo. That was what I had decided on, but the one currently on the official site's menu doesn't sound as good to me. I'll probably get the corvina, but the grouper dish on the menu here sounded better. Oh well, I may even go with the pork, which I rarely order.

I've had the short ribs at both Chefs and Jiko and felt that Jiko's were better. I've also had the filet at Jiko, but actually enjoyed the short ribs more.
