With the AirTran and SW flights released for Nov, I was hoping to start to see flight prices drop. Not the case so far :-( Right now non stop on Delta is $338 per person. Lots of seats left on the flights. What's your trigger price to buy for Dtw to mco? Should I wait? I am leery of SW because we are traveling w small children.

I wouldn't be leery of SW. Add EBCI, $12.50 each way per person and compare. Might not be cheaper than Delta, SW has been high too.

The good thing about Delta is that they have several non stop flights daily from Detroit to Orlando. I didn't think Southwest flew non stop out of Metro to Orlando anymore.

Was able to get $167 return flights on Delta for DTW to MCO last November, hoping for at least < $250 for this November. I have been tracking with kayak.com and see Spirit is close but I would prefer the times of the Delta flights. Hoping they will release some better prices soon.

We typically fly out of Detroit. It's about a 2 hour drive for us, but is usually the cheapest in our area, by far. I just booked us out of Grand Rapids, MI for $900 for 5 of us, to MCO in Sept. MUCH cheaper than DTW! :cool1:
It's only about 45 min further than DTW for us. Booked on SW. Check it out!

Im going to do SW out of GRR too - but last week saw some 266 RT out of Lansing - cheaper than FNT or DTW... there was a layover in DTW, but still less hassle than driving and parking in Detroit!

We booked our flights through southwest out of Grand Rapids for our October trip. It was extremely cheap!!

We fly out of DTW as well. We are going to fly into Tampa on our next Disney trip. Saved $$$ and car rentals seem to be cheaper. I can handle the longer drive and smaller airport........

I live in GR and always flew out of Detroit because it was so much cheaper. Now that AirTran/SWA have arrived, the prices have been closer. When I flew in October 2011, I flew out of GR because it was just me and my SiL. We had a direct flight on AirTran (both ways) and it was about $50 more than out of Detroit. That $50 would have been eaten up by the hotel room we would have got for the night before (which would have included our parking). Now, in June of 2012, there were 15 of us flying. The flights out of GR were $100 more expensive so it was a no-brainer to drive to Detroit. The 4 rooms we got cost us $450 total so we still saved over $1000.

I looked at the prices for our November trip and I was shocked to see that it is CHEAPER to fly SWA from GR! For our dates, the cheapest non-stop flight from DTW-MCO is $401.80 per person. The non-stop from GR is only $287.80 per person. On top of that, the Detroit departure was around 6:30am and returning at 5:30pm. The GR non-stop has departure and return times between 2:15 and 2:45 which are much more convenient. Maybe this will make the West Michigan market more attractive and we can get some other airlines (JetBlue???) to add to our choices.

We are looking at November and I am wanting to pull my hair out over prices as well. We live in Lansing, and usually fly Delta out of DTW. Right now it is just too expensive. They are $401 as of 10:00 this morning. We usually pay $200-$250.

I would consider FNT or GRR through southwest, but the flight times are not great for us. We may have to drive... UGG.

I randomly checked last night and delta had dropped to $232 RT for our dates. I had to pick a later flight out and can't book seats till 24 hr check in (eeek!) but I am super excited it dropped!

This is what I was going to suggest, to check out GRR if you were willing to drive. We usually drive to DTW or MDW, nice to see a cheaper flight from GRR.

You should be able to pick seats in advance on Delta. Check your reservation online. If all the advance seats are taken, keep watching, sometimes more open up.
