Hey all,
I'm thinking of trying the Wolfgang Puck Express this time when we go at the end of Jan. Has anyone eaten there GF? I'm GF and CF, but I'm thinking if anyone has some GF tips, that would be very helpful. I've eaten there prior to food intolerances and loved the Chinois Salad. I would have to get it without the wonton crisps, etc. but I'm hoping someone might have a review. I haven't tried any special diets food at Downtown Disney, so I'd love to hear reviews! :thumbsup2

I haven't eaten at the Wolfgang Puck's at Disney, but I have been to the one in Las Vegas.
Out of 8 people at the table, three of us were gluten free. I found the waitress and chef to be very helpful. They went over the menu with us and pointed out all the entrees that would be safe. I had the tuna tartar for an appetizer and a chicken dish for dinner. Everyone liked their meals. I recall that there was also a gf chocolate mousse on the menu too.
Have a great trip!

I have not found DTD places an easy place to eat.
My Experiences:

Rainforest- must be me cause I always have issues there- others report no problems.
T- Rex.. same company but totally different in my cases- they are very, very helpful

Wolfgang Pucks Express has been a hit and miss for me. I have been helped and other times they look at me like I am crazy..
(maybe it's the puddles of drool from watching people eat the pizzas that I can't have :confused3

Raglan road.. not too helpful and neither was capt'n jacks...

Earl of Sandwich is well... Sandwiches on breads...lots & lots of bread all over:) They have nice fruit cups though:)

Thanks for the help. My concern is that I'm dairy free in addition to being Gluten Free, which makes things more difficult. Maybe we should just eat at another disney restaurant and skip the DTD ones?

I'm at the point where I won't eat anywhere that's not owned by Disney. We choose WDW for our vacations because we know just how amazing they are regarding food allergies. Places that aren't owned by Disney just aren't going to do as well. Yes, many of them do have gluten free offerings, but when you add in other allergies and intollerances, options become much more limitted. Because in our case it's kids that are restricted, we're not about to put them through watching everybody else eat all sorts of tasty foods just to have to eat bunless burgers themselves. Disney owned restaurants just have so many more options.

This trip will be our first time visitting DTD. We're not planning to eat there. We'll have an early lunch at our resort before heading over and then head back to the resort in time for dinner.

It's true that many places really restrict what you can order when you throw in more than just a gluten allergy. One of the few chain restaurants I can eat out without getting sick is Red Robin. I get chicken sandwiches and turkey burgers, always without cheese and of course follow the rest of the GF menu guidelines. I have yet to try Carrabbas and Outback or Bonefish Grill with offer GF menus. Red Lobster was a bad bad choice the last couple of times I went. Boy are they cranky and non-helpful. The waitress actually yelled at me b/c I was so "picky." That is why I love WDW. I was hoping DTD might not be so bad, but perhaps I'll just eat in the parks or resort before going.

We've eaten at both Carrabbas and Outback. Steakhouses are among the easiest places for us to eat. Carrabbas doesn't have any gluten free pasta but they do have some really amazing food. I remember one time eating this fabulous scallop salad with some kind of home made vinegrette dressing and thinking it was just amazing. The chef really "got it" and even warned us against something on the gluten free menu since at that location they typically make it in the same part of the kitchen as the pasta so it would most likely have cross contamination issues. That really gave me confidence. Things really do vary by location though. I've read horror stories of Outback where they just pick croutons off salads and bring steaks out on garlic bread even though the customers have re-itterated many times that their meals have to be gluten and dairy free. I've never experienced anything like that though. We've had only good experiences at both. At a Longhorn Steakhouse one time, the waitress came back to the table to make sure I was ok with the fact that our steaks wouldn't have grill marks since they'd be cooked with foil over the grill to make sure there was no cross contamination from the grill. The same chef also said that he wasn't confident that the fries would be safe since even though they have a policy of a dedicated fryer for their fries which are gluten free, he wasn't sure about one of the guys on another shift doing the same so he didn't feel it was safe. Yup, that sort of thing gives me confidence. It's wonderful encountering these types of things.

The restaurants at DTD will accomodate you as best they can, but non-Disney owned restaurants just don't have the same kind of allergy safe alternatives on hand as the Disney owned restaurants do. They'll try and your meal should be safe, but you'll be limitted to maybe an unseasoned steak and plain baked potato like you would be at home. I figure when I'm at WDW I want to be spoiled by all the amazing things I can't get at home so I stick with Disney owned restaurants.

Exactly! That's why i'm considering just scrapping DTD and hitting someplace else.

Glad to hear Carrabbas has been good and Outback seems to be OK too. I hate it when I got to a restaurant and get violently ill after thinking everything was safe. I once ordered turkey at a local restaurant being told it was safe, only to end up getting really sick. Well, live and learn I guess.

I don't trust poultry in restaurants. At home, I'm able to make sure that I buy minimally processed poultry so that there's no injected "flavouring" but in restaurants I can't guarantee that. If the chef is well educated about gluten and food allergies then he can verify and I'll give it a try but most places don't give me that warm fuzzy feeling to know that there's nothing injected into the poultry to give it flavour or moisture.

I'm bumping this to see if anyone has any new tips. I'd love to try out Wolfgang Puck express if anyone has had any good experiences.

Excellent. Food quality excellent, prices good (by Disney standards), service excellent both dine-in and take out. Easy access from OKW via boat.
