I will be staying on IDrive but want to experience DTD and Universal's Citywalk a couple of nights.

Can anyone tell me if they are easy to get to from IDrive and also roughly what a taxi would cost?

Many thanks,

Evelyn :D

You may be just as well asking this question on the transportation board.

However, if you are staying on I-Drive, does your hotel proide any transport to the theme parks. We stayed at the Quality Inn last year and transport was provided to Universal. The last bus came back about midnight so we managed to visit CityWalk a couple of times. If transport is provided to Disney, then it's reasonably easy to get to DTD from the transportation centre at Disney.

I think BW Movieland provides transport to Universal so hopefully that'll cover us!

According to my Virgin brochure, BW Movieland does indeed provide transport to Universal so you should be fine. The alternative, however, is to buy a pass for the I-Ride trolley (I think Universal is probably only about half a mile walk from the trolley stop at the top of I-Drive, near Universal).

Thanks, thats a help. I'm planning on buying a 14 day trolley pass as I won't be driving in Orlando.

We didn't drive last year. We used the hotel transport to Universal and Sea World. We also bought some transport vouchers for Mears transport. At $13 per person, they were a bit pricey but they will drop you and collect you from whichever Disney park you wish. We used them 3 times, to get dropped at one park and then picked up from another. You phone the night before to book your outward journey and then can book the return journey when you go or phone them later and let them know what time you want to come back, and from where.

When are you actually going?

Hope you have a good time and get some answers on the transportation board.

We're going at the end of September. I forgot about Mears, I heard they do return taxi-type journeys which would be handy for the Arabian Nights dinner show. We-re using them for our return transfers from the airport.

It looks like you are going just before I am, I hope you have a good time too :D

Wilma what are transportation vouchers? I have never heard of these.

Cazzie, we got them from Virgin. Basically, you can buy vouchers for transport to certain parks at a set cost (as I said it was $13 to Disney). We bought 3 days worth of vouchers and that covered us for 3 days return journeys to/from Disney. I'm not sure if it's something you can book direct with Mears (I just had a quick look at their website and it said you can book it in conjunction with Airport transfers but we just bought them through our Rep in the hotel). What TA are you travelling with? Perhaps you can ask them.

Last year we did not hire a car, and mainly used taxis for the whole 2 weeks, we found it was cheaper than hiring a car anyway!! to universal it was around 5 to 7$ each way and to disney we never paid more than 30$( we sayed at the wyndham orlando on i drive.) we also used our i-ride 14 day bus pass alot which cost oly 14$ for shopping, seaworld, wet and wild and restaurants in the eve.

Although our hotel offered transport to the parks we know from previous experience it takes you round all the other hotels sometimes wasting an hour for only a 5 to 10 min journey. it was also always really crowded!!

Hi Alex

You've been more than helpful, thanks. :D We're planning on using i-ride 14 day pass for most of our travelling during the day and only really want to use taxi's for evenings to go to dinner shows or Citywalk and DTD. We missed out on the Illuminations show last time because we had to leave to catch the last bus back to our hotel so I definitely don't want to miss out on anything this time!!
