DTD transport problems

Having just returned from a few days at the Wyndham Palace I wanted to warn people about a problem with the buses. Several times we boarded buses at the Wyndham (first pick up) to find that the bus was completely full before it had called at all the hotels. Once it filled up just from the Wyndham and Hilton. With buses every half hour only, this is something people at the Grosvenor and Best Western particularly need to be aware of. It might be worth walking to the Wyndham or Hilton for pick up at park opening time. We stayed at the Courtyard early December last year and I don't recall the bus ever filling to capacity. Just an indication of how busy Disney is at the moment I guess.

How do the buses from these hotels operate? Is there a different bus for each park or does every bus go to every park?If so,does anyone know the route they follow? It seems like it would take forever if you were one of the first pick-ups going to the last drop off.I am really concerned about missing early entry since we are staying at the Hilton.Anyone? Call the hotel and ask about whether you can make a reservation and/or if there are additional buses if buses get full.

This is important at night too.

Things may have gotten better since but an unofficial guidebook from about 5 years ago said that guests leaving at park closing time could be stranded if the last bus back to the hotel area was full.

Generally, if you are staying at an off site hotel, including those just behond Downtown Disney, you are better off with a car.

I don't think the DTD hotels will strand you. I have heard of that happening with other off site transport though.

As for EE only the Hilton has it so I would think that the bus only goes from the Hilton to Disney. You should probably call and ask though.

You cannot make reservations on the DTD busses.

Im not sure how the buses work, but I'd imagine they've worked it out so that if a bus fills up in the morning, they'll send out more buses. Just like Disney Transport... just because your bus only makes half the stops, doesnt mean another bus isnt going to make the rest. Hotel Plaza buses usually run late enough so that no one gets stranded, but I cannot guarantee that.

They may not be great... but they're not bad.
