DTD/Saratoga concerns

Is anyone else a little concerned about the recent problems at DTD, and its' proximity to my "home" at Saratoga Springs?

Safety was something I rarely worried about when visiting Disney (maybe foolishly), but what's to keep the trouble from walking the pathway to Saratoga?? Seems easy enough to do, especially since DTD isn't gated or ticketed.

I'd love to hear some feedback.

A mugging in the dark, unlit back part of the parking lot.. and what other problem?

I wasn't aware of any other problems other than a small fire in a trashcan this past weekend.. which is hardly a big deal.

??

Not to be blunt, or unkind but yes you were foolish to think Disney is immune to crime, as they aren't and have not been for a long time. Crime will find it's way anywhere there are people with money.

Use the safe caution and concern you would anywhere you travel, especially to large cities.

Hey Knox, it is not being described as small fire, anymore...

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Sheriff's deputies said they found an object that resembled a pipe bomb in a parking lot garbage can at Downtown Disney on Monday.

Here's a link to the rest of the story...:sad2:

I have to say it does make me nervous.:sad1:

Most likely it was some of those knuckle heads they banned from there in thier recent crack down on trouble makers. It sounds to me from the reports that it was some one being more of a vandal then anything else.

Just keep your eyes open and trust that little voice.

It's true that Saratoga is within easy walking distance from DD. It was actually a concern a few folks voiced when the place first opened. I think the concern then was the possibility of a few drunks just wandering over--not teen gangs:)
I've never heard of any problems from that DD/Saratoga "connection" and hopefully there won't be any.

So maybe I stagger back to my room once in a while but at least I never tried to swim back!

I think with the increased security (both Disney and non-Disney) in the DTD area, that so long as you use common sense, you should be OK. It's just as easy to walk in to several of the other resorts, such as the Epcot resorts, without passing a guard shack, as it is to walk into Saratoga Springs. I would feel as safe there as I would at any Disney resort.

However, after the incident that happened at a Universal resort, where a woman woke up in the night to find a maintenance man in her room, I would caution everyone to use ALL the available locks on your room doors whenever you are in the room. If you turn the deadbolt, then the housekeeping and maintenance keys won't open the door. Also, make sure both locks are engaged on the patio/balcony door, especially the upper lock.

Last, but not least, leave your valuables at home. Don't bring the fancy jewelry and the expensive watch. Make sure you can secure your electronics. I believe most of the cast members wouldn't bother your stuff, but a co-worker was with some friends at the Yacht Club last weekend, and one of them had jewelry stolen from the room (which I don't believe was secured in the safe, but that's where using common sense comes in).
