DTD patrons using SSR busses

I had always wondered why the parking lot at DTD was so full. I have to say I think it's crazy to waste so much time.

it's about $260 for (2 adults, and 2 children) to get into the parks per day (1 day passes). Which means (you are staying off site, so no EMH for you) about 12 hours (9am-9pm) or you are spending 21.75 $/hr to visit the parks. $10 to park is less than 1/2 hour of your families time (27 minutes and 35 seconds, if I did that right.)

I wonder if they could empty out the DTD parking lot by not charging for parking, and increasing ticket prices by some small amount. Also Disney can't be making that much off parking any more, I look at the park areas and they are all 25% fill on any given day, and when ever I drive though the booths they are always waving people in.

johno,
What times did you drive threw the booths when they waived you threw? Since my family & I always stay at the Contemporary around a certin during the evening they stop charing the $10.00 fee to park at the TTC, because it was around 7:00 or 8:00 PM cars not in the lane for the MK Resorts were being waived right threw.

Just about any time I drive though it seems like maybe 1 out 10 cars is paying. Maybe at 8am there are more people paying, but I never see that many people paying.

Yeah but can see whether they have a resort parking pass on their dashboard or an AP in their hand?

I stay offsite and get an AP. One of the perks is the free parking. So we routinely drive up to the booth, tell them we have an AP, the CM glances at the back to see it's in date and waves us through. After the first day of that, you learn to have your AP handy, so all you need to do is flash the back of the card to the CM. Takes all of 4 seconds.

The resort parking pass is usually seen by the CM as you're braking to stop.

People staying onsite, and people with AP's don't pay for parking, so that would be a lot of cars being waived thru.

I suspect that some of the biggest offenders (of parking at DTD and using SSR buses) just might be locals who have the Florida resident seasonal pass. This pass does NOT include parking, and people with this pass go to the parks frequently enough that the wasted time involved isn't a big issue.

I'm a bit more concerned about the openess of the walkways to get into SSR then I am about people riding the buses.

We need to pass by security and show Card to drive in but anyone can just walk right off a main street.

No different than BWV or BC just walk from MGM or EPCOT, I've personally never had a problem getting a bus to SSR, which is where we usually stay. Security gates are to control traffic and prevent parking at the resorts for free while going to the parks. No armed gaurds to keep out the bad guys just lots of camers and security that you don't even notice. The crime at all the resorts is very low, but every now and then you hear about something, usually a car getting broken into, I don't know of anything serious that has happened.

Yes, that is my point there are so many ways to get free parking. Why not finish up by amortizing what they do get from parking across the rest of the passes.

Fee for parking at parks , arenas etc. became a big thing back in the 70s and 80s due to tax incentives to promote mass transit, around the same time as the 55mph speed limit ( original gas crises). Don't know if the tax breaks are still there but the bussiness' know a cash cow when they see one. :happytv: Too much History Channel I need to get a life!

The busses don't run at DDT until it opens for the day. Opening time is 9:30am, which is about when the first bus starts rollong in to DDT.

I have no problem with Disney Resort Guests using the SSR bus to get to DTD. Although, I have no idea why they wouldn't just take a DTD bus.

It's the people who are not staying at a Disney Resort that I have a problem with.

What ever happened to showing your Resort ID when you get on the bus?

The reason why offsite guests can use Disney buses is because it says on their MYW passes they can use any from of Disney Transportation, so that is why they can ride the buses.

I personally wish the Disney Transport buses were only for WDW Resort guests, however they are not so there is nothing we can do about that.
