Has anyone taken the balloon ride in DTD?? :dumbo:
My DH is very interested in taking this ride.
Care to share?
How high does it go?
Did you like it?
Is it worth it?
Thanks! :goodvibes

It is a tethered balloon that rises 400 feet. The ride is 10 minutes long allowing for two minutes to maximum height, 8 minutes at maximum height and 2 minutes for descending. It holds about 20 people, less if it's at all windy. It does not operate when wind currents move the balloon around too much. It costs $16 for adults and $10 for kids. IMHO, the daytime ride on a clear day is way better than the night time one. I thought it was well worth it.

That adds up to 12 minutes.

I rode it in the morning a few weeks ago (before the rains came). The sky was clear and we could see all the way to Cape Canaveral.
It was A-MAZE-ING. It was well worth the $16 and I would love to do it again. I heard that if you go at night, it's a completely different experience.

We went on it Tuesday morning and thoroughly enjoyed it! I would recommend it highly!

:surfweb:
Thanks Everyone! :)
We will have to try this one!!
Can hardly wait! Hope you can see all of the parks from there.
It would be cool to see Cinderella's castle from up there. princess:

I have pictures of the view, but I don't have a clue how to post them!

DH went (I'm afraid of heights) and he enjoyed it. He thought it was a bit pricey considering how short the ride is.

Have fun!

I went on it a few weeks ago during my trip.

We had high winds so only 5 people allowed at a time; I can't imagine 20!

THe ride itelf was awesome! Can see Tower of Terror, Epcot ball and some of the deluxe resorts. I'll post pics soon in my TR, link below.

Definitely go!!! Totally and completely worth the $16. I think there will be AP discounts next year.

For those that went, do you go up with characters? I thought it was called "Characters in Flight" or something like that. Any pics of people in the balloon? Is there an age or height requirement? Thanks!

That IS what it is called.
But, no "characters" RIDE the balloon with you.

The "characters" are the images PAINTED on the BALLOON itself.

My DH went the morning of Memorial Day. At that time, the limit was 10 adults per flight so what we thought was a short line turned out to be over an hour wait so be prepared! He thoroughly enjoyed it and would go again in a flash.

Here are my Characters in Flight balloon ride pics. The ride initially was closed temporarily due to weather, but it re-opened with a limit of 5 people per ride on May 6, 2009.

So official!

Down the gangplank we go!

Once up, you can walk around as long as the others are in step with you since you cannot lopside the balloon. Our ride only took 5 people at a time, but really depends on the weather.

We can see the Epcot ball, the Tower of Terror and the deluxe resorts in the distance. As well as all of DTD, of course. I take a bunch of pics and video. .

Would hate to have little ones running around on it while I'm on it! :scared1:
Think my DH can go on by himself!

How many can usually go on at a time?
