Hello!

We are looking at booking a family break at Christmas, and I was wondering about staying at the non-Disney hotels at DTD - I figure they must be a bit cheaper than staying completely on site! . Does anyone have any experience of these - I would really be lookign for something in walking distance of DTD if possible!

Thanks!!:goodvibes

Here is the link to all the resorts there....

http://www.downtowndisneyhotels.com/

It has been a while since I have stayed at any of them. I have stayed at the:

Regal Sun (when it was the Grosvenor)

Lake Buena Vista Resort Hotel (Best Western)... stayed several times there

Buena Vista Palace (when it was the Wyndham)

Holiday Inn (when it was the Marriott)

Hilton

The closest for walking purposes would be either the Buena Vista Palace or the Hilton. You can walk from the others, but with each one, the walk gets a little longer

I am also thinking of finding a hotel offsite closer to DTD.

I'm look for a kid-friendly hotel with an awesome pool, activities.

So far, the deals I found are at:

Hilton - downtown disney
how is the pool? love the location

Hilton Bonnet Creek

Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress

This is purely relaxation mode prior to a few days onsite. We are just going to spend our days lounging/swimming and one night go to DisneyQuest and another night see La Nouba.

Thanks.

I've only been to a few of the DTD resorts, but awesome pool doesn't come to mind of the ones I've seen.

Some offsite places I have tried that do have great pools are Craribe Royale, The Marriott World Center, and maybe the Gaylord Palms. All three are rather close to WDW, but not actually located in DTD. CR and MWC are located just outside WDW property on the road that is called Epcot Center Drive while on WDW proprty (Then 536, I think.)

Gaylord Palms is located just off 417 and West Oceola Parkway. (and South I-Drive) The Disney ME buses often go by it on their way onto WDW property.

I also think the Nickelodeon Hotel has a neat pool complex, but Iv'e never stayed there. It looks a little gaudy, IMO.

There are also several other places around that have neat looking pools with waer slides and such. But then again, the obvious answer too is on-property Mods maybe.

From any of the three, it's a pretty short drive to the Outlet Mall or DTD. Not walking distance. Even the DTD resorts though are tricky to walk to/from DTD. The close ones could be done easily enough, but each is a pretty large property, and the road there is fairly busy. I'm not saying folks don't do it, but it's not a particularly pedestrian friendly part of WDW.

I am not sure when the dates are through but all the DTD hotels are running a 72 hour sale until this Monday through the Dwontown Disney hotels page on facebook. There are some great rates!! :thumbsup2

Wow, thank you so much!!! I just checked this out as I needed a 1 night stay in the area prior to our Polynesian/Windsor Hills stay, and I was able to get a Deluxe Tower Room at the Royal Plaza for $69!! It's perfect, two beds + sofa sleeper for our family of 5. Room looks beautiful!

We stayed at Buena Vista Palace over Memorial Day weekend. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. We had an Epcot view and the room was very nice. Beds were big and comfy. There is a small fridge in the rooms as well.

We will have enough Hilton points to stay approx 5 nights or so during our stay, so we will not be staying at a resort. We plan on going to WDW the week after Thanksgiving.

We are looking at either the Hilton in Downtown Disney, or Bonnet Creek. I've been reading threads on both. Would love some more info.

We will have a 4.5 year old and a 9 month old. We will have our own car. Which of these 2 hotels would suite us better? Pools and such are not a big deal being we will be there in December. DD1 is a picky eater (sticks to regular American food). We MIGHT be able to branch her out some, but not a lot. I plan on packing breakfast food items (poptarts, cereal bars, etc).

Do both have character meals? Any experience with this? This will be our first time going, and I'm sort of overwhelmed by all the choices.

I booked Best Western DTD with mousesavers rate of deluxe disney view room with balcony for $69 for 1 night in Seppt, the night before we check into the Poly. Our plan was to stay at the Hilton but after googling reviews decided to go with BW instead.

We have enjoyed the BW great Balconies & large rooms. Friendly Staff. did not care for the breakfast there though.

I have and would stay again at the Hilton in DTD. Two major pluses for me were the walk to DTD, and the EMH perk (no other DTD hotel offers this).
