I posted a couple of months ago about the cooking birthday party I was having for my son. Well the party was yesterday and overall it went pretty well! I spent more than I anticipated I would, but it turned out cute.

For invitations I found some cute ones at the Hallmark Store. They were shaped like aprons and had real strings on them. I decorated them a bit with cooking theme stickers and they turned out really nice. I bought the tableware at Target from the dollar bin at 75% off, so each package of plates, napkins, cups and silverware was .25 each! When the guests arrived I had them each sign an apron for DS (in the pic in my sig). Then they each had to guess how many marshmallows were in the mason jar to win a prize. Each guest received a chef hat with their name on the front. I bought those at a restaurant supply store and they were about $1.00 each. Then the kids started making the english muffin pizzas. Before we started though, I gave each child an antibacterial wipe to clean their hands. I put the english muffins in colored baskets I bought for .25 from the Target dollar bin and the toppings went in star shaped compartment trays and I put two of those on the table so the kids could share. I used black olives, cheese and pepperoni in the trays. The sauce was in a paper cup and each child had their own. While the pizzas were cooking the kids played pin the tail on the donkey. Then it was time to eat the pizzas. I also bought regular pizza for the couple of adults that stayed and a few of the kids preferred the "triangle" pizza they said.

After pizza the kids played around with the balloons, hitting them to each other and played in DS's room. Then they came back to the table to make sugar cookies. I bought sugar cookie dough and divided it up into individual portions and wrapped in saran wrap the night before. I gave each child a piece of wax paper and I bought rolling pins from the dollar bin at Target to roll their dough. I had many different cookie cutters and sprinkles for the kids to use. While the cookies were baking we had a pinata. It was shaped like a cupcake. After pinata it was time for cake and ice cream and cookies. I made the cake myself and thought it turned out cute. I bought a cupcake cake pan from Michaels and frosted it like the picture on the pan. The kids got a kick out of it.

After cake and ice cream the kids were wild so they played in DS's room some more then I put in a DVD called "Pete's Pizza" (which was free from using Best Buy Bucks, thanks to folks on the DIS for giving me theirs!). The DVD was a bit strange, but the kids watched it until the parents came. For goodie bags I gave each child a cannister of legos (.39 at Target xmas clearance last year), a pizza shaped sticker with stick on toppings, chocolate lollipops that I made with my chocolate maker, and an activity book I got for .19 at Target.

Oh, and I just found a code for shutterly.com to get free greeting cards, so I made up some thank you cards with a pic of DS at the party on the front. Those are going to be so cute!

Overall the party was a lot of work but they really had fun! :flower:

Looks like you had a fantastic party for your son! The cake came out great and I love the idea of the autographed apron! Great Job!

What a cool idea! It sounds like it turned really fun!

That is a great idea! I'm glad that it went off so well. I'll have to keep that in mind for one of my kids parties!

How cute, you must be really organized!!!

I had three adult helpers ;) There is no way I could've done it without them. 10 kids vs. me = nightmare LOL.

Sounds like a lot of fun, you should submit your party details to www.birthdaypartyideas.com

Every month they review the submissions and hand out awards, I once won and received in the mail a $10 check, now I get to say I am an award winning party planner :teeth:
