DSLR Settings Cheat sheet

I spent this morning making my own cheat sheets and I thought I would share. This file is designed to be printed on Avery 8376 Business Card sheets. I have printed them and laminated them back to back and put them on a ring. I am sharing the file in Word format so that anyone can make their own changes. I included some charts that I have found useful.

Thanks so much for sharing this! I'll be sure to try these out on our next trip - and I love how you say "practice on the kid in front of you". I do that all of the time and I'm sure their parents are wondering what the heck I am doing with pics of their child! I usually delete right away just in case I get questioned. :)

And for the OP - this is a great question. I'm not a pro photographer by any means so having something quick to reference is a huge help to me as well!

While I understand the appear of a "cheat sheet" nothing beats simply shooting, reviewing your results, and making corrections/changes as needed. This allows you to get to know your camera, and begin to understand what settings make sense in certain situations. This can sometimes be a painstaking process...but in the end you really learn how different lighting situations can impact your shot.

My concern about relying on a cheat sheet is what happens when you come across a situation where your "cheat" does not yield the proper exposure or desired result?

My intent is not to insult anyone...but don't let your cheat sheet prevent you from experimenting and learning to use all the functions of your camera.

I consider the setting on my notes to be a baseline to start with. If I can dial those in without struggling then I can quickly adjust for the needs of the situation.
