I have this lens for my Canon Rebel 2000. How do I know if it's compatible with any of the Canon dSLR bodies?

Thanks :)

I could not find that lens on Sigma's web site. Looking at the discription on Amazon it states the lens is for a canon AF mount. I assume it will work because Canon uses the same mount for autofocus film and digital bodies. I use a Sigma film lens on my 20D.

Sorry I can't be more help, you may want to take it into a local camera shop and try it out.

you were helpful, thanks!

FYI, ALL EOS compatilbe lenses "should" work. That being said, Many older Sigmas and some other thrid party lenses need to be re-chipped. If you're buying the lens new, it "should work". Here is a list of problemed Sigma lenses:

Looks like the lens you want is on the list. Check with Sigma to see if they'll re-chip it under warranty if you really want it.

The following Sigma lenses require upgrading for compatibility with newer EOS cameras, according to Sigma:

what is involved to re-chip a lens? This one is at least 7 years old - I got it with my Rebel 2000.

Sigma does/can not re-chip every lens, I had a Sigma 28mm 1.8 that they told me was not supported and offered to give me $100 credit towards the purchase of one of their lenses(at full MSRP).

The lens would focus and shoot wide open, but if stopped down it would give me the famous "err 99".

Yep, I had a re-branded Sigma (Quanuary) that became a paperweight.

Since you have'nt bought it yet, it may be best to avoid it, and look for an alternative. Those slow zooms are cheap for a reason. :)

i think i shipped and rechipped my old sigma lens for a total of $14( the chip is $10)..they will tell you if the have the chips to do it...i emailed them from their website and asked about my lens and camera. but if you didn't buy it why ask for problems...the rechipped lens worked ok, it was just as bad as it was before;) i got it rechipped so i don't use it. reread and see you have the lens...imo if it is at all decent and the have the chips, the price is so small it's worth it if you think you'll use it at all.

I think I'm going to leave well enough alone, and just keep it as a film camera lens. I don't have a Canon digital SLP body, but I thought I might want to start budgeting for one after I finish up the photography class I'm taking.

If you're saving up, you may want to look at the new EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS coming out this October/November for about $250-$300.
