1. as a
travel agent, I worked with many groups going to
destination weddings. The bride and groom usually don't hear
many of the gripes from people about the expense nor realize
what a hardship it is for some of the people who feel they really
need to be there. If there is some way you can discuss your
problem-your dh doesn't fly, the cost and your concern about
Mexico with a small child - do it now. It's a year away and it's
possible to come up with a compromise of some type. A vow
renewal at home or a reception where the rest of the family could attend? It seems like your sister has turned her wedding into
an adult event. Her friends don't sound child friendly but I'd be
careful what I said about them to her. She obviously wants them
there.
2. I've taken my son to Mexico/Akumal twice and I've gone myself
countless times. Never has any of us gotten sick. It IS hot and
one has to drink bottled water; I even use the bottled to brush
my teeth as a precaution. i do this in Europe, the Caribbean,
Cincinnati, et al. Some folks have sensitive "systems" and a
change in chemical treatments does effect them. Most people
get sick on vacation from too much heat, too much alcohol and
too much rich food with grease that they are not accustomed to
or food that has not been kept properly cooled on a buffet.
Most of these resorts have buffets so keep an eye on how they
present the food and if things are questionable, be careful as
you would anywhere.
This hotel, not near any other-the Moon Palace perhaps?, probably has a great water treatment system and will give you
nothing to worry about.
3. I'm not sure where you live but July is a great month to get
a good price. You'd have to wait for specials and risk not getting
the perfect package but if several people do it, stay at the
same place-cars can be rented at Cancun airport and it's
pretty much impossible to get lost-there is only one road south,
all hotels run off that road. Get some directions from the hotel
before you go-don't ask at the car rental in the airport.
July WILL be hot but the ocean breezes and ceiling fans usually
keep things bearable. Children love the beach and these resorts
are amazing so you will have fun. The resorts are so big, it's
easy to dump people you don't want to hang with. They have
several pools and children's programs.
Two posters right? Different issues too I think. Good luck to
all. I wish I was going with you. It's been too long since I
went to Mexico for a good rest!
