Someone on CC says they are just off the Dream and daily gratuities are now $14. Anyone else hear this?

Just curious....what is DSC? I'm going on Dream for the very first time this Monday. I pre-paid all our gratuities.

Question , what and why do you pre pay your tips ?

Many people prepay tips simply for budgeting purposes and/or to avoid a big expense post-cruise. When you "prepay" you are essentially putting an amount equal to the recommended gratuities on your shipboard account, to offset the charge that you know will appear. You can actually prepay any amount you desire. Recommended gratuities are $12 per night per passenger.

Enjoy your cruise!

btw that gratuity is what is recommended you dont have t ostick with it. you can tip less if you want to but remember that unfortunately that is how your servers and room steward get most of their pay. We always give more than the suggested amount because we have never had bad service. and because we usually bring our own snacks for the shows onboard, they get to have whatever is left over that hadnt been opened.

We just got off the dream today for a 3 day cruise. Tips are $12 for Server and stateroom host, 9 for the assistant server and 3 for the head server. This is the total price per person, per cruise. Hope this helps.

Maybe the quoted $14/d was for Concierge level?

If so, then that would be an increase as it has been the same as the non-concierge level and some newer service would need to be offered. Our dining team during our cruise had concierge and non-concierge tables. Although our stateroom host was great, I did not see us getting anything extra during our 4 night cruise that non-concierge were getting.

Or, that needs to be explained prior to boarding. Paying an additional gratuity would certainly impact how much cash I added at the end of the cruise.

Thanks! I've never sailed Concierge but read that some lines had a separate gratuity covering those staffing the concierge lounge or providing the 'special care' services of booking reservations/tours on behalf of the guest. I figured DCL also had a daily gratuity suggested for the concierge staff.

To my knowledge there is not an auto-gratuity for concierge. My disclaimer is if it's been a recent change. They send a letter out with all the standard tip slips & envelopes explaining they do not get any part of the standard gratuities. The tip amount to the concierge crew is purely at your discretion. It can be added to your shipboard account or left as cash. I typically base my number on length of cruise & how much I asked of the concierge staff. I bring cash to cover it. I do like to prepay standard gratuities ahead of sailing so it's one less thing.

Some lines do. As of last September Disney didn't. I don't recall ever even having a suggested amount for the concierge staff. It's always been left to my discretion.
