I originally posted this on the resorts board and it was suggested I post here too:

The past several times we've stayed in a hotel, DS gets a red itchy raised rash on his back and stomach area. After talking to our ped. we've decided his sensitive skin issues he had as a baby are back.

Can the Disney resorts (Pop in particular) do anything w/their bedding and/or towels for sensitive skin/allergy issues (I'm thinking do they have bedding/towels they wash in sensitive skin detergent)?? And if so, is there a charge for this?

I realize this isn't a huge issue, I can bring our own sheets/towels down, just would be nice if I didn't have to ;)

I'm sure my reply won't be nearly as informative as you were hoping for- but its a start!

I also have sensitive skin that breaks out in a rash at most hotels that use bleached white towels or bed linens. I was nervous that I would have a similar problem in WDW this past June, especially since the rashes can last for quite some time and really bother me throughout the day.

Luckily, I had no problem with the towels or linens at WDW (which really surprised me since this past January I had problems at another hotel up north)- I'm not sure what the reason for this was. I did notice that the linens/towels didn't smell quite so much like bleach as at other resorts - we were at Animal Kingdom Lodge though, so I'm not sure if the same detergent is used "disney world-wide."

I have learned to always bring along a towel from home to use after showering, which saves me a lot of dry/itchy skin problems. I'm not sure what Disney's policy is on special laundry requests, but I'm sure you could call ahead and ask!

Otherwise, I would pack a set of linens/towel- just in case! Those rashes are no fun!

Good luck!

They do have different cleanings that they can do. Give them a call and they'll set you up with what you need (likely something like "no harsh chemicals").

The only pontential downside to this is that if you don't like the room you get for some reason, you cannot switch rooms easily, since the other rooms would have sheets washed the "normal" way. Not really an issue for most people, but some people are very particular about their room location.

If you don't care about the chemicals or allergens around the room and only need sheets and towels that are washed without chemicals then you can request just that. Be very specific about what you need.

thanks, I didn't even think about the cleaners!

Are comforters washed w/o chemicals also??

And is there an extra charge for this??

No extra charge.

The only real "gotchas" are that as PP said, if you aren't happy with your room location then it is a much bigger deal to change rooms since the cleaning is a significant effort and in my experience the towels aren't left in a timely manner or may be left in a big plastic bag rather than put away (neither being a big deal but it does seem to happen sometimes) because they have to bring these things separate from what they have normally on the cart. These are extremely minor for those of us who need the cleaning but for some people these would really matter.

If you're requesting no chemicals then they'll change the comforter too.

good to know!!

Will all the towels/sheets going forward during the trip be allergy free?? I'm assuming that would be noted on housekeepings notes somewhere...

and will it be noted somewhere in the room, or should I ask to double check when I get there??

thank you!!

We have requested VIP Allergen Cleanings. The commercial cleansers with dyes and perfumes might be the culprit - and they have a dye and perfume free cleanser they can use. Like others said be specific about your needs so they can be met and reduce any chances of discomfort on your trip! Oh and it never hurts to ask them to double check when you are there! And asking about towels/sheets going forward would probably be a good idea - any addtional notes/comments that they add to your reservation could help. I am a DVC member and have called the resort directly a day after my on line check in and spoken to someone at the front desk as well - I am not sure if it is different for other resorts but I find that they seem to know more about whats going....

It's funny but I kind of like when mousekeeping doesn't get our low chemical towels put away because seeing them in the bag gives me that comfort of knowing that we've got the right towels. A couple Februaries ago, mousekeeping was totally on top of getting our room done up well before we returned from the parks and when DD11 started having breathing issues I called to be sure that our room had the right sheets and towels (we did). It turns out that there's some particular flower that blooms in February in FL to which she's highly allergic but not seeing that the towels and sheets were in a bag (because they did their jobs efficiently and effectively LOL) made me wonder.

Yes you'll get low chemical sheets and towels for the duration of your trip if you let the need for low chemical stuff be known.

POP did a VIP cleaning last Aug when they found out my son had over 20 food allergies and aeroallergens. They put new blankets on the beds and cleaned the carpets better too.
