DS Turning 16 and small Vent..

Our son thinks that parties are "silly". We go somewhere special and just have a good time instead.

Boys around here don't have those kind of parties.

After asking my son about 100 times what he wanted for his birthday and getting, "nothing," "I dunno," "let me think about it," I demanded an answer. He says:

"What do you WANT me to want?!"

Ug.

I have to agree with your son. If he doesn't want anything for his birthday, why push it? I very rarely want anything either. WHat I really like is for my husband or son to see something and say, I know she would like this, and get it. It means so much more that way.

For my sons 16th (in a few weeks) we are hijacking him and 2 friends and going on a road trip. We are going to visit some go-cart tracks around for him to "practice" before he gets his license!! He loves go-carts so I know he will LOVE this!!

:sad2: ok well NOW my DS decided we are doing as followed:

1st.. on his bday.. We are going to Josha Huddy, used to be Ground Round.. me, DS, DS's GF, Dad, Grandma and Grandpa for dinner.. ok no problem

2ndly... he is having his school friends over for Pizza and Movies.. DS asks.. hey Ma, ya' think we can rent a Big Screen TV for the day ?? :scared:

3rd.. on MOTHER'S DAY, he decided we HAVE to go to Ha Na Japanese Habtchi for dinner cause Gma won't eat there and DS gets jipped for his Bday and has to go somewhere SHE will eat.. umm what happen to "mom" choosing where SHE wants to go for Mother's day to eat? DS says, but Ma.. you like it there too...

see what I get for pushing and putting too many ideas into DS's head.. :rolleyes2

Yea, but what happened to him picking his birthday dinner location? :)

I like the big screen TV comment. :rotfl2:

LOL, my son turned 16 last Sept and no, he did not want a party. He did want to have a few friends come over to hang out...but that wasn't anything out of the ordinary.

Boys, especially teens, are different.

I'm female, and did not want a big deal made out of my 16th birthday. Although I didn't want to, my parents insisted that I be taken out to dinner. I very, very, very reluctantly agreed for their sakes, with the request that attention wasn't drawn to that fact that it was my birthday. I have a "souvenir picture" of a not-so-happy-looking 16 yr. old girl with restaurant-provided sombrero and maracas as she is being serenaded by enthusiastic wait staff.:rolleyes::rolleyes: Yeah, I was/am probably immaturely ungrateful and selfish, but I really, really, really didn't want it. It would have been best had my parents not pushed the birthday thing. YMMV.

My oldest DS turns 16 in August and we are having a party at a local park. He wants lots of $$, so he is thrilled to have a party. :rotfl:

For my son's 16th Bday he said he just wanted some friends over to watch movies and have pizza. Sounded good to me! So, while they were in the livingroom, I decorated the kitchen in all Barbie stuff! Pink balloons, Barbie plates and napkins and even party hats and cake!! He has a great sense of humor! I called them into the kitchen when the pizza came. I've got a great picture of their faces when they saw it all!! They put on their party hats (I have pics) and even were polishing their nails with the Barbie nail polish party favors!! It was hilarious!! It's one party none of us will forget!!

We planned a pool party for my DS, he sent out invitations about 20 and 2 showed up. They had a good time, but kids just don't think turning 16 is special anymore. He's had many other pool parties since then and everyone he invited came, I could never understand it?
