It is a temporary position until the end of the school year but he is thrilled. He will be teaching 6th grade (exactly the age he wanted) and it is an elem school in Cape May. It's about a 30 minute drive and he is taking the place of a teacher on maternity leave. He just graduated on Dec. 20 from the U of Maryland (GO TERPS) and it's great that he got this. Otherwise, he'd have to be on standby as a sub and he needs the income right now. He is still on my ins plan until Dec 2004 so hopefully he will get a full time position for the fall as he doesn't get benefits but will be make quite a bit more than a day to day substitute.

Congratulations to your DS.

I am sure he will make a wonderful teacher. It is great that he is getting his foot in the door this way - and soon after graduation to boot. He needs this experience to get a full time job. I know of two different people who came out of school and were not able to get jobs. One has her Masters and worked as a full time sub for a year before getting a classroom. The other is working as a paraprofessional and hopes to get her own classroom next year.

I hope he enjoys his day.
