How old is your son? My oldest DD had it when she was 4 and I have never seen a child so sick. 
It took quite some time for her to get over it and actually, for several years, every time she got sick, she would show every sign on the mono. The doctor told us that would happen. At 14 now, she hasn't shown any signs of it and is actually the healthiest of my 3 kids.
