Nathan seems to have developed his first illness. It started last on Wednesday afternoon. He seemed to go from feeling just fine to screaming and rapidly developing a fever. Thankfully I was able to get him in to see the Dr. that evening. He had a little nasal congestion last weekend so I was concerned that he might be developing an infection of some kind. The Dr. took a look and said that his ears/throat looked fine and that it was probably just some sort of viral infection and to give him Tylenol and Pedialyte.

Since then he seems to have spells where he acts very normal and then other times when he must feel miserable. You can just see it in his eyes. :( I have ZERO time off from work thanks to my extended maternity leave so DH was home with him last Thursday/Friday. It was so hard to be at work knowing that DS was feeling so bad.

He is still really fussy and sleeping a lot more than usual. I am still worried about him. He seems to develop low grade fevers throughout the day but they go away quickly. Also, his congestion is much worse but he just screams if I try to use the aspirator. I have read that you cannot use decongestants on infants less than 6 months old and I don't know what to do. I set up a humidifier with some Vicks in it for night and I try my best to use the aspirator to clear out his little nose but he just sounds terrible.

I guess I am going to have to call back the dr. tomorrow. I feel so helpless and I hate seeing him feel so bad. :( No one informed me that a medical degree was a prerequisite for parenting.

I'm sorry your little baby is sick, Becka. :( I'm sure you'll get some good baby advice here shortly. Hang in there; you're such a good mommy. :) {{{{Hugs}}}}

Do you have a nurse line you can call?

Even though he screams when you use the aspirator it really is the best way to clear congestion. He will recover pretty quickly from the trama. You can ask your Dr, there are a few infant meds but they may not want you to use them. There are saline nose sprays you can use.

Usually when they run a temp it makes them feel bad. You can see it in their eyes.

As long as the temp stays low and there are no signs of respiratory problems there probably isnt' much more to do. Just give him lots of hugs and let him rest.

Not much is worse than when your child is feeling so badly and there isn't much you can do about it. Especially when they are so little and can't tell you what is wrong....... hope it runs it's course quickly!!

{{{hugs}}} Becka. I pray that Nathan gets better soon and that you'll feel better too. Parenting is the hardest job you'll ever do and when you have to work and be away sometimes THAT is the worst part of all.

Sorry to hear that Nathan hasn't been feeling well. I hope he feels better soon. {{{hugs}}} to you both.

Poor boo! My kids would get low grade fevers often when they were babies, I guess its just their way of fighting off illness.

Hope Nathan is feeling better soon, Becka!

{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}} Hope that he is soon doing much much better!

Natahn, I hope you are feeling better and mom, you take careof yourself also, Nathan needs you. If I could take his beinf sick from him I would, Ihate seeing a child not feeling well. Keep us posted how he is doing

Try elevating (slightly) the front end of the crib (small book under the two legs). This may help with the drainage.

Hope Nathan feels better soons!

I hope little Nathan is feeling much better really soon, becka. {{{HUGS}}} for you both.

{{{HUGS}}} Becka. I know how hard it is to be at work when your little one is home sick.

Thinking of you and you. Hope he is feeling better sweetie.

How is he feeling today? How are you?
