Help!! The inside of my nose is raw and our house isn't even that dry yet! I have tried Saline drops but they aren't helping. Any ideas? Thanks

Vaseline on a Q-tip. A doctor had told me to do that a few years ago when mine was raw from a sinus infection.

I second the vaseline. My brother used to get bad nose bleeds from it being so dry and this is what the doctor told my mom to use. It helped a lot with his nosebleeds.

Don't stick vaseline up your nose. You can breathe it in and end up aspirating it into your lungs and cause lipid pneumonia.

There's something called Ponaris, I believe only by doctor's RX though. It's a natural oil that helps hydrate the nasal passages, and it doesn't have the agent in it that causes the lipid pneumonia.

Also, a cool air humidifier will do wonders. Don't use the steam ones, those will only end up making it worse long term.

I use 'First Aid Antibiotic Ointment' with a q-tip in the nose. It is similar, in appearance, to vaseline but has Bacitracin Zinc (500 units) in it and you can find it in any drug store, including Walmart. It's cheap. My doctor suggested it as my nose gets so dry and, if the inside of the nose should crack and bleed, the antibiotic keeps infection away.

I 2nd the 1st Aid onintment I recently used a genric triple anitbiotic onitment an I still here.

I'm a nurse at an ENT office and our doctors always suggest vaseline and nasal saline spray for nosebleeds/dry nose. And they say NOT to use anti-biotic ointment as it's actually more irritating to the nasal lining. You just use a little bit of vaseline, not enough to breathe in and aspirate.

Try an over the counter product called Ayr Saline Nasal Gel. It is a product to help moisturize and soothe dry stuffy noses. You can put some on a q-tip and place up your nose (even the label says you can put it up your nose). So obviously no medical problems.

My oncologist recommended it when I was going thru chemo as it dries out your skin and sinuses really bad. It does help and you can apply it as many times a day as you want.:thumbsup2

I use a saline gel called Rhinaris. It works great and keeps my nose from drying out in the winter

Thanks so much for all of the ideas everyone. I have been using vasoline and that hasn't helped so I am going to head to the pharmacy and see if I can find any of the products that have been listed. You are the best!!

There is a product called Nasaline which is available OVC at the pharmacy. It's basically a thin vasaline and comes in a small tube. DD has chronic nose bleeds and her doctor prescribed this.

I second the Ayr Saline Nasal Gel. I have sleep apnea and my cpap can really dry out my nasal passages. I use the gel and it's a life safer.
