My hands are so terribly dry it hurts at points. seriously. I work at Target in a job all day where I deal with a lot of boxes and stiock items and by the time I'm done at the end of the day its awful.

I use curel at home and it helps a lot. I have a tube of body butter in my stash at work so i can use it during the day and it helps too. But some days I just can't seem to get enough relief.

Ideally I'd like to prevent my hands from chapping to begin with. Not try and fix it afterwards. A coworker says its all the cardboard we deal with. Sucks the moisture right out of our hands. I'm thinking she's right.

So i need suggestions. Am thinking about getting gloves but if i do what kind? Heavy work gloves will only be hot and too bulky for me to deal with hte box cuttters.

Any ideas?

TIA

I don't know what type of gloves to wear but to help with the dryness now I have a suggestion. I just did this for my ds, his hands were bleeding and cracked. Rub Vaseline on your hands and put socks on them before bed-do this for a few nights and you will see the differance.

Burts Bees Hand Repair Creme works like magic. I promise!

I work in retail too & the cardboard certainly does suck the moisture right out of your hands! We got shipment today & I must have greased up my hands every 10 minutes.

Normally I don't like greasy hand creams but during winter (espeically on shipment days) it's all I use. I've used Avon's Silicone Glove and right now Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy Moisturizing Hand Cream is tucked in my purse, by my desk, the drawer by the register, etc!

Can you get access to hand cream with minerals from the Dead Sea?

My hands are always dry too - partly because with my allergies I wash my hands a lot, and also because I don't like putting lotion on during the day - it makes it nearly impossible to play my violin. They got really bad after my eye surgery, when I was also sick and constantly having to have my hands clean - they're cracked and red everyday. I'll have to try that burts bees stuff - I really like their Almond Cream for nighttime with the gloves, but I ran out of it recently.

When mine got really bad (I used to work at Sears in the shoes department-- and a bank with money... my hands were HORRIBLE kinda like you're describing)

I got a really, really good moisturizer (I think I got the "Show of Hands" stuff from Bath and Body Works) AND.. this was the salvation step..

Switched ALL my soap (even put some in a bottle in my purse for while I was at work) to this stuff:

It's pricier (but not ridiculous) and now that I only work in banking I have a jar of it in the cabinet but only pull it out when my hands start to get really bad... It's seriously amazing stuff. I noticed a difference in my hands in days!

That new Gold Bond Moisturizing Lotion works wonders for my dry hands and will survive even hand washing. I wash my hands alot and also do alot of paperwork and that combination is torture on your hands. This is the only thing I have found that works well for me.

I love using the nutrogena Norwegian Formula with white cotton gloves over night. I also recently started taking 3000 milligrams of Flaxseed oil a day and have noticed a great improvement in my skin.

not sure what you can use for gloves for work, how about garden gloves with some kind of traction on it for holding the box cutter and boxes. They would be thinner then work gloves.

My step-dad's hands take a beating because he works for a water department. He uses "Udder cream"- you can find it in the pharmacy section or by the lotions, in a cow-printed tube. It really works.

I find this works best for mine and for DH's dry hands

Hemp Hand Protector

Best if you want to: End rough, dry hands with help from an intensive cream that locks-in moisture with a fresh, herbal scent — perfect for over-washed hands.

Best for: dry to extremely dry skin
How it works:

* Hemp seed oil has an unusually high concentration of essential fatty acids that help to repair skin’s moisture barrier, so skin is smooth and supple.
* Community Trade organic beeswax moisturizes and conditions; acts as a barrier to seal in moisture.

Bag Balm works really well but is greasy. Put on at night with white cotton gloves or socks.

I also like the creamy Vaseline meant for baby (can't find a link) - not too greasy yet does a nice job to soften skin. Smells great, too.

At work: Rub vaseline into your skin, wait a couple of minutes and wipe off the excess.
At home: Do the same except when you get ready for bed, rub the Vaseline into your skin and put either cotton gloves or socks over your hands. Your skin will heal quickly. A dermatologist told me about this. She said Vaseline is better than expensive creams for restoring moisture.

Hydrocortisone ointment.

I like the ointment better than the cream.

There are a few things that work. #1 I would get a paraffin wax treatment on my hands.

Bag Balm (works overnignt) or Berts Bee's hand repair treatment (the kit comes with a pair of white gloves) Both work wonders if used regularly.

When I remember to do this, I use vaseline on my feet (w/socks overnight). If you do it consistently, you will notice a big difference.

I work in a similar situation - about a year ago I started to use regular platex gloves - the thin, clear kind that nurses/doctors use (not the yellow ones to wash dishes). My hands just have not gotten worse in the winter. We keep a box on the floor (hiding above a shelf) so we don't have to look for them.

Just curious, are you still able to purchase this Dove Hand Wash? This was discontinued (at least where I work) a few months ago. They went on sale half price and they flew off the shelves.

I didn't read the responses so if this has been mentioned please forgive me.
Olive Oil. Yep, the kind you cook with. Keep it in a small bottle (like a travel lotion bottle) and keep it with you. Apply it as many times a day as you remember. It works better than anything you can buy. It also does not leave your hands greasy. Use it sparingly. I used to do this when I was in beauty school and my hands were always in water. I had the softest hands then.

My daughter with ecxema and myself (medical professional washing hands constantly) both agree that this is the best lotion we have ever used.

I order it at work (through a dental catalogue) and pay about $25 for the smallish bottle - the one pictured with the pump. It's worth it. I have tried everything from vaselline to Eucerin to BAG BALM (ew) to cocoa butter to all things in between.

This is frangrance free, goes on easy, makes your hands immediately happy, and is not goopy at all - my gloves go on immediately after use so you know it's not wet/oily

GOOD LUCK!
