Drugs

Wow! This thread was really interesting.

I really just don't personally understand why people would want to do drugs, since it's just something I've never been compelled to do. For me, the 'losers' are the kids who come to class stoned and acting idiotic. I understand why people might be curious to do it and experiment, but there comes a time when they need to grow up.

As for underage drinking, I don't know. I do believe the drinking age should be lowered, and I don't think someone is any worse for drinking socially.

I wouldn't consider myself "straight edge" because while I am never going to do illegal drugs, I do plan on having a glass of champagne when I get married and a glass of wine for a special dinner occasion.

For smoking pot, I think it's a personal choice. If you want to do it, fine. How is it my business to tell you not to, you know? I won't smoke pot, but that's my choice.

As for drinking, I'm not going to say that I'm never going to drink, because I know that's not true. When I'm older, I'll drink. I know I will. I see nothing wrong with having a few drinks with your friends.

you said it was no more harmful than alcohol, which really isn't all that true. it affects the body in a different way than alcohol, and for a longer period of time.

Alochol can directly kill you, weed cannot. I think that's why someone who consider alcohol more harmful. I know I do.

i did a research paper on this my senior year actually.

a drug...in the broadest sense, is any substance taken that affects or stimulates the central nervous system. EVERY country has their drug of choice available to the public. the US, for example, has 3 drugs of choice. tobacco, alcohol and caffeine. some states have already legalized marijuana for medical purposes. so if you enjoy your hot vanilla latte, ice blended mocha or your favorite flavor of soda...technically, you're taking drugs. the "sugar rush" you have is actually a mild high you get from taking those.

back in the day, coca-cola used coca, caffeine and sugar for their drink. coca is actually the main ingredient of cocaine. they dont use it anymore but they manufacture a substance that gives the drinker the same high, hence the addiction to soda for some people.

tobacco and alcohol are actually the most dangerous drugs and most addictive. they kill more people than any illegal drug.

i've always been fascinated by this statistic. is that because, out of all the deaths in the world, tobacco and alcohol are the most frequent, or among users, do more tobacco users die a tobacco death than more heroin users die a heroin death?

does that make any sense?

basically...alcohol and tobacco are not regulated because they are legal. since its more accessible, more people use it and more people are prone to get killed because of it. so logically, it causes more deaths than any other regulated drug.

tobacco as a substance is dangerous because it directly affects your lungs. contrary to popular belief, tobacco isn't addicting; it's nicotine thats addicting. in contrast, alcohol is not dangerous in itself; but is highly addictive. the body actually rejects massive amounts of alcohol, hence all the puking. alcohol is dangerous because it affects your motor skills and disorients your senses NOT because alcohol as a substance is dangerous.

its more dangerous to drive drunk than drive high.

so there are more deaths caused by tobacco/alcohol when you speak of all substance related deaths in general. but i think that if you took a percentage of tobacco users/percentage of tobacco users who die a tobacco death, the ratio would be much lower than if you did the same with heroin or cocain or meth.

according to the most recent US census, tobacco is the number one killer in america, 18%. roughly 100,000 more than the next one, heart attacks. the third one is alcohol related

in fact, substance abuse from prescription drugs totaled more deaths than ODs from illegal narcotic drugs. there were 0 deaths related to smoking pot.

i just looked up the statistics, to satisfy my own curiosity.

15% of alcohol users die
30% of tobacco users die
30% of cocaine users die
50% of heroin users die

i couldn't find a meth statistic that was solid, most were over 50% though.

i meant out of everyone who uses ___ how many die from it?

there are more tobacco users than meth or heroine users, so obviously, that cause of death would be higher, but on average, tobacco and alcohol were the least deadly drugs.

Marijuana is a medicane, the best one actually.
Alcohol is sloppy in excess, I never have more then 2-3.. I dont belive in drinking hardcore as it kills the human body and is extremly addicting.
Tabacco is filthy and disgusting. I despise smoking that stuff YUCK...
Mushrooms and LSD are a good way to expand your life and put things into order.. But should not be abused or taken regularly. Once every few years is good and can really change your life for the good..
Coke, herion, meth..Yadda yadda are all filthy and should never be ingested.. All are addicting an have no place in anyones life.. Bad stuff..

Take my words to heart and dont listen to the propaganda the gov and other public figures throw out there..
