Drudge Report, why do 'they' hate it so much?

I can't understand something, why, oh why, do liberals hate the Drudge Report so much? Ok, so I will take away the first two reasons they do and that is because he is a conservative and he does take the conservative slant when reporting. Of course, *they* hate everyone conservative. ;)

But other than that, most links on the Drudge Report Web Site connect to other mainstream sources for their material. It would be like blaming the mailman for all of the junk mail I receive. I just don't see their reasons... Can anyone enlighten me? probably not.

I don't really think that it's an issue of "hate". It's more like "Oh GOD, so and so is quoting the drudge again just to annoy us!" LOL!::yes:: :smooth:

Your guess is as good as mine. I would like to know which of the following Drudge news features aren't true;

Shots fired into Knoxville Bush/Cheney headquarters.
Canadian submarine in distress off Irish Coast.
Officials warn of major Flu shot shortage.
Oil prices surge to another record high.
Wal Mart plans more store sprawl.
ABC in a turn around.
UN Signs Pact with New World Court.
Israelis force down Lufthansa jet
Palm Springs syphilis rate highest in the nation. (now there's a good one). Shall I do my "due dilligence" and prove it?

If there all not true, then we haven't a thing to concern ourselves with., or do we.;)

Dear MiniP!

Why can't more of us (both sides of the aisle) be like you! You read a post, and actually answer the question, *WITHOUT* having to put anyone down.

Drudge does not have a good record when actually trying to report things himself (Monica Lewinsky notwithstanding). But he is a great way to quickly link to other stories. When someone "Quotes" Drudge, they are almost always referencing another legitimate story that appeared elsewhere and was simply linked to. He also has numerous generic links to news sources (newspapers, columnists). I would assume that mostly conservatives go to Drudge because he most often (though not always) links to stories that are offered as being interesting to conservatives. For that reason alone, I would guess that many simply don't like Drudge.

Dawn, I know we *NEVER* agree on anything, but I'd love to help you do your due delligence on this story. Perhaps we could do it together!

P.S. anyone ever see a rash/sore that looked like this?

I will be happy to answer, although I can only speak for myself.

Personally, I think of Drudge as akin to the national enquirer. A rag. There are stories there slamming Bush...there was one about cocaine use recently. Nobody here had a "Bush uses cocaine" thread did they? Some of us recognize trash when we smell it. We accept that it is often garbage, and find it annoying when people have to post every single anti Kerry link they find on Drudge...the same people who would howl at the moon if a drudge story was linked about Bush.

No doubt you will disagree with my assessment, but you asked why, and all I can give you is my opinion.

due delligence

This is the second time I've seen this phrase. This is an entertainment INTERNET message board. Not even a formal debating organization. If you'd like to keep score, the left leaning posters have just as poor a record of citing bogus stories that they "wanted to be true" as those on the right. Sometimes we take ourselves far too seriously.

I bet most of us don't really hate drudge (I don't, but it can't always be taken at face value). It's the use of Drudge as a baromter of factual news or importance that gets tedious. My friend Galahad hit the nail on the head with his response. Would you conservatives say you hate "The Raw Story"?

Edited: To once again agree with the level headed conservative. This is an internet board on a Disney web site...'Nuff said?

I don't hate Drudge at all.

What I hate is when anybody can read a inflammatory headline from any news source such as "Local Teacher Expelled For Displaying Photo of President Bush" and simply jump in and post their outrage and disgust -- without even thinking that what they are seeing may be biased, short of facts, or just downright fiction.

Given the current standards of much of our "news" reporting today, I think a cynical eye is always required.

No thanks, I will pass.

Reminds me of a song we sang in nursing school:

It started with a little scratch; treponima pallidum
It turned into a bright red rash; tremonima pallidum
The Wasserman came back four plus....(I forgot the rest, good thing)

Well as long as they stay away from penicillin, the treponima acting as the last synapse in their brains will continue to fire...

sigh

Personally I think that Drudge likes scoops regardless of which side of the aisle they impact. Last week he broke the story that the NYT was about to publish a story about the forging of Nigerian documents related to Saddam's attempt to get nuclear material. And in 2000 he was the one that broke the Democratic "October Surprise" about Bush's DUI arrest earlier in life... flashing lights and all.

Good point Geoff, while I agree with most posters that Drudge has very conservative leanings in the general way he puts his site together, I agree with you that the overiding issue is 'the scoop' and when push comes to shove I don't think he'd hesitate to scoop either side. Write the headlines, be the headlines, I doubt that Drudge cares.

I don't really think of Drudge as someone who reports news, rather just convient links to news articles elsewhere. 95% of the things on the site are not done by him, so I think that those who bash him really could do more by bashing someone who actually writes columns and such. Among my friends, including liberals, most of us use Drudge as our #1 news source just because it is a quick way to see all of the news of the day. I also like his selection of everything from weather phenoma, politics, sports, and entertainment. Drudge is a great place for a quick hurricane fix, or to see what Elton John is yelling at Madonna for.

OMG-I've never heard that one before! Well, just because you said that I promise to only be nice on here from now on!

Lessons start tomorrow!:earseek:

I love the Drudge Report, I love listening to Hannity and Limbaugh too, and guess what...I'm not a conservative :teeth: . Personally, I like to get all the information that I can get my hands on and there's just some stuff that you don't hear on network news or read in the daily newspapers. I'm an info junkie! I'm not a Republican but have been called a liberal before...but personally I just like to consider myself an independent thinker. And with that in mind, I need to hear all sides of a story, so this way I get some sort of balance.

Just thought I'd add my two cents ;) . Drudge rocks!

No, it was actually "Bush family values." Of course the story linked was about Neil Bush. No telling why that wasn't mentioned in the title.

But it didn't take long for cocaine to make it on that thread. Does that count?

I check out Drudge from time to time. I don't hate that site at all.

But I don't find his special reports to be very credible and those are sometimes posted here as fact.

This general subject came up a few weeks ago. Unless a story has 2 or more independent sources it probably shouldn't be cited.
